If you don't have the $600 for Photoshop CS2, the next best thing is a software called PhotoPlus 10 Studio Pack. It's the best Photoshop clone with a lot of the same features and it's only $79.

If you have the money, then Photoshop CS2 is the way to go. You get the full functionality to create whatever your creative desires lead you to make. With an uber assortment of Plug-Ins there really isn't anything you can't create with Photoshop.

Don't buy Photoshop, by Paint Shop Pro 9 or 7. Price is $100, but look on ebay.

AdobePhoto is an excellent program and used extensively by graphic designers and photographers but it is very expensive. If money is not an object that's what I would recommend. There are some that you can download for free such as GIMP.
If you are not sure which program to buy, try out some different programs through http://www.adobe.com/. They have a very wide selection of free 30 to 60 day downloads of their programs so that you can try them out before you buy. There is no obligation to buy the products after the trial and you can try out as many as you wish. They also have free tutorials and lessons on using the programs.
It's free to sign up and will help you in making your decision. Hope this helps. Good luck.
