Wow! Don't anyone ever try to tell me this country (the good ol' US of A) isn't full of hate, bias, prejudice!!
I took this passage to mean a little warning for anyone who would profess the Muslim faith: that your most likely enemies will be the Jews (he was RIGHT about that!), and that the closest to your way of thinking, and your most likely supporters, will be Christians because they don't brag on their faith (well, they didn't USED to)
But then I read all these half-a**ed answers, where people are putting down your Holy Book, or you, or Muslims in general, or just making fun of your whole question. I can't believe the people who said that Christians don't put anyone else's religion down. Just last night someone wrote in Answers that Catholics will go to hell...........................
Hey! Get it together people00we are all human, we all want to raise our families in peace and prosperity, to be good, honest, moral people. Stop the HATE!
PS: to the asker: is my interpretation close to the meaning you get from this verse??

Born again Christian. I want to admit from the start that I really don't know anything about Muslims, their faith, or the Qu'ran.
I'm interpreting this to mean that Jews and polythiests are most violent and openly show their hatred; and that Christians are closest/ more trusted because of their religious structure and behavior? I may be wrong in my interpretation.
I don't agree at all. The Jews believe in the same God the Father/Creator as Christians do. Their only difference from Christians is that they don't believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ. Their God is still a loving, but just, God. I've never met a Jew who was more proud than any other average person.
I've never known a polythiest, but you can't just categorize them all as being violent in enmity. The most violent religions in the world don't seem to stem from polythieism.
While, I agree, it makes sense that Christians should be the friendliest (all of thier teachings/beliefs stem from one man whose greatest testimony was one of love). Christians should be some of the most loving, friendly, trustworthy people on the planet (though I admit, even from my own experience, that is not always so).
And when Christians are friendly etc. it is not because they have priests and/or monks (and pastors, DCEs, Lay ministers etc.). It is because they follow the man Jesus Christ. Christ teaches to love your enemies and do good to those who persecute you. His gospel is about grace, mercy, and love. If Christians do not behave proudly, and according to Christ they shouldn't, then they will seem friendlier. It is easier to connect with someone who doesn't think highly of themselves. Christians are not close in friendship because they behave humbly. They are close in friendship and beahve humbly because they follow Christ, who was the ultimate example of humility, love, and compassion.
These are all my opinion based on my interpretations. They're not meant to put anyone down. That's exactly how the quote makes me feel.
Thanks, and God bless.

where's the verse about killing yourself/being a martyr for "the cause"? And no, i'm not some ignorant person, i'm just a tad bit bias, and sorry if i offended you, the Qur'an just isn't on my top ten list of fav books. I used to be a bible thumping christian ( I was a missionary in Romania last summer), till i saw how exclusive and demeaning christians could be (the whole holier than thou persona) and I am seriously wondering how people in the muslim faith (the extremists) could have missed this verse.

OK. So the Jews are the most hostile to Muslims. No surprise there.
[5:69]Surely those who believe and those who are Jews and the Sabians and the Christians whoever believes in Allah and the last day and does good-- they shall have no fear nor shall they grieve.
Allah, in the Qur'an, is God, the God of Abraham, the same God Jews, Muslims, and Christians, like myself, worship. Islam has no quarrels with those who worship God, only those who do so under false pretenses.
The verse you quote is out of context. Before and after that, it talks about those who have strayed from the Word of God (Allah).

The answer is there my friend.
See jewism is older than christianity and christianity is closer to the islam in term of times.
Secondly, Quran says clearly that there are priest and monks among them. (who can tell them what is written in their books, the original bible).
Because of the time factor, the real teaching of Mosus (peace be upon him) had already diluted for those who still believed in Mosus but actually they should have believed in Jesus (peace be upon him).
Secondly when Muhammad (peace be upon him) migrated to Madina, there was group of jews who became hypocrates that means they called themselves muslims but actually they were not and used to plot conspiracy against the islam.
This was the reason that christians got differentiated in this manner.
Otherwise from belief point of view, they are all equal because they believe in more than one God or the sharing Gods.
Allah the Almighty know better.
for more details any islamic scholar may be contacted.

you see, muslims just hate us right off the bat. what did we ever do to them? its institutionalized hatred thats being taught, and thats what causes violence. its just straight up baseless hatred. it does not mention why jews are the "most violent." its interesting that christians are singled out as peaceful friendly people "because they have preists and monks." jews have rabbis. i think the message of this passage is trying to stress the importance of peaceful leaders and friendly leadership. unfortunatly, if you look at this passage from todays point of veiw, it is really the other way around. muslims are generally the most violent. there are plenty of musilm leaders that are encouraging violence. thats not to say that all muslims are violent terrorists. but when was the last time you saw a rabbi telling jews to kill muslims, or a jew strap a bomb to himself and blow up a bus full of innocent people in gaza?

Very nice!
The NASKH PRINCIPLE over rides all ""co-operation""with infidels.
The above verse is indeed in the Q......BUT it is immediately overridden by ;
Christians and Jews brought down = Surat Al-Tawbah 9:29 and Surat Al Anfal 8:38, 39.
Don't befriend Jews and Christians = Surat Al-Maidah 5:51

It sounds like a religion that is focused too much on other religions. Christian doctrine does not mention Muslims. Our faith has no opinion of yours, either positive or negative.
