In California, you have to have two license plates on your vehicle, one on the front, and one on the rear. These plates are to be affixed to the front of the car, and not simply placed in the window of the car.

Every car produced in the US for the last decade or so has a place for a front plate. Holes might need to be drilled, but there is a spot for the plate.

Unless the vehicle is manufactured not to have a front license plate then yes you do! If it is a car that does not require i would keep proof with you at all times

If two plates are issued, and if the vehicle has a front mount, both plates must be displayed. I lived in CA for two years and only displayed my rear tag because my car didn't have a front mount bracket. I was stopped 4 or 5 times for various things and was asked to show the officer my front tag, which I did. I was never cited for not mounting it since my car didn't have a front bracket.

California, like Texas, requires two plates on a vehicle, front and rear. If you drive with just one and are stopped for any reason, you will be ticketed. It's a $247 fine for the first offense.

It is required but most cars don't have a place for them, it's all a matter of how long you can go without getting caught for it

Yes, it's required. Not everyone does it though. You can get a ticket for not having one, or a warning, depending on the officer.
