I was thinking about have braids put in my hair. I wondering what color would best? I would like something that would clean. Also what kind of hair would last and indure the heat of arizona? I am thinking of having thicker braids done so it does not tair my hair out from the roots. My mom thought I should get dreads. I need some help and ideas.

My natural hair- is thick, curly, bushly but nice black hair.

I braid hair. and I get my hair braided. The thicker the braid the less time it will last, also it depends on the experience of the braider. If they tend to twist the hair when they put it in then you will have problems with it tearing at your roots.
You can get all kinds of products to help the braids stay clean and stay in longer but make sure you cover your head before you go to sleep at night, not only for comfort but to help them from frizzing up.
The first few nights of having them you will feel uncomfortable, and it may be hard to sleep till you get used to them..but that goes away.
make sure to bring some one with you that is used to getting their hair braided at a salon because the braid shops will work you if they think you don't know what you are supposed to pay. Try the braids before you go try the dreads. this way you can experiment with what styles you like, have them maintain by a professional to keep the consistency and make sure they stay looking good instead of raggedy.
