If you guys are only four months in, I would say just like something small like a cd, dvd, no clothes or anything like that just sumthing small and a card. Overall it is not really the object that counts its more the thought. For example, when I was like 3-4 months in with my ex-girlfriend I got her some cd and a card. If I remember she lost the cd but kept the card and really liked it.
each to his own..

It would be a good idea to get him something personal, but not anything that would give him the idea that you're ready to run down the aisle. Let it be simple. Don't over do it. Make it fun! A gag gift for starters or even souvenirs from his favorite team.

Clothes. I work at Kmart in the mens clothing dept. I see mostly older women buying clothes everyday. I asked them if they were shopping for thier husbands and how long they had been married. It seem to me that these women KNOW how to take care of thier men. You can show your man you would take care of him by buying him clothes that he likes. This way you get him a great gift and show him that you are good wife material.

You should have a good idea of where his interests are. Go along with that theme and you'll be O.K. Of course, he may be expecting something else for his birthday as well (wink wink)!

Considering He's probrably a Leo like Me_If you're into this kinda of thing...Buy Four sex toys, name each the months you've been together...Three: totally secretly for you and one: especailly for him; not to seem selfish on his birthday. This way you'll be "satisfied" -(principle & person) knowing he Enjoyed the gift you got for him.

Find out what he likes and get him something inexpensive and not too personal, if you have known him only 4 months.

Four months? Cook him dinner and give him a CD or something personal (ie He likes darts so you get him an inexpensive dart board - not cheap, inexpensive).

Well I don't know how old you both are and your financial situation.
TIckets to something
A shirt
CDs, DVDs
Dinner and/movie if you want
Don't go wild. Four months isn't very long.
