To the American Civil War era. There were soldiers in the Civil War on both my Mom & Dad's side. We would like to trace further back into Ireland, which is on both sides. But it's difficult, especially on my Dad's side, because good records weren't kept. Plus, there seems to be a few families that could be the right leads, but all the members have the same first names and in the same time period, same ages. We just know that most of my Irish roots come out of County Tipperary.

Back into the early 1800's, both sides of my family. It really is difficult to track back further unless you go to where they came from, because so many records, all of the world, have been destroyed by disasters, both man-made and natural (war being one really big man-made one!)
Good luck on your search. Just remember, now that we have the www it makes finding people that you're related to now so much easier than it used to be.

All the way back to the 10 something. I think it was a crusader. History is my worst subject, I'm not sure if the dates line up, but I definately remember a crusader and the year 1017, I think.
