In his book "Experiencing God", Henry Blackaby gives the best answer to this question that I've ever seen, all derived from the Bible, of course. I recommend the book.
Meanwhile, the short version: If four factors line up, you can know with confidence it is from God:
What the Bible is saying
What your heart hears in prayer
What your Christian brothers and sisters say about it
How circumstances line up
I can only add that the better we know God, from prayer and studying His Word, the better we are able to know His voice.
God bless.

number one, the Bible says" my children know my voice". Also , to know if it is God ,is easy. If it lines up with the word of God(bible) then it is of God. If it does not, then of course it is not of God..
You must know the bible, so not to be decieved. Satan will come as a angel of light, and decieve with many lies , and half truths.Be carefull of doctrines made up of man. Stay with the Bible, study it, pick through it with a fine tooth comb.until all your questions are answered. You need to read the entire book, reading only a part will not give you enough insight into some things.Hope this helps alittle

Get well grounded in the Word, One way to tell if it's from God is does it confirm scripture or contradict it.
For instance the guy who read about Judas and nothing else in the Bible and committed suicide cause Judas did.
Pray and Worship for a while and then listen for the "still small voice", near the end of your prayer time until you get better at discerning His voice.

If God speaks to you it will always agree with his Word. Sometimes it will be in a still small voice other times it will be through reading the bible.Other times it can be when your listening to teaching of the bible. How do you know for sure it's God? Ask yourself. Is this something the devil would tell me and does what I'm hearing agree with His word? The bible says he sheep know his voice.

Meditation is listening for God's voice, and prayer is talking to God. How I know is that once I have allowed all thoughts to leave my mind and I've centered myself completely God's voice comes through loud and clear. There is no mistaking when you hear it; it wil be something so beautiful that you will know its his voice, and you won't have any doubts about it. Also, in your heart of hearts; you will just know......

THere are very few things god ever said.
If you see a hand come out of the air and write MENE MENE TEKEL UPHARSIN on the wall in letters of flame, thats probably god.
If you see a burning bush which is not consumed in the flame, and it seems to be speaking to you, maybe god again.
God is theatrical, he really lets you know.
If you think you are talking to god, perhaps you are just insane

God speaks thru his word, the Bible.
Satan would ask us to do something contrary to God's word or others. With Satan, you know you shouldn't , but do anyway.

He speaks to you through your heart and mind...sometimes through your dreams...and sometimes you must be very still to listen. You will feel much peace and experience such a wonderful feeling of well-being...there will be no doubt of the source. He often employs various ways of getting your attention and will utilize Angels, or present you with someone who reaches your heart, or use your own wisdom from deep within your soul. If what you hear generates doubt and fear in your heart...then you will know it is not a good thing.

i asked it before on here and got a lot of mean answers. but the best answer i got was this.
Gods voice will not contradict his words in the bible. So study the bible that way you can be sure you are in his word.

it will be confirmed as the truth by time and reasoning. I use to wonder and then i realized that everything God has told me has proven to be true by time. Trust in the Lord! My favorite book and chapter is Hebrews 11. Read it and you will know the importance of faith. peace
