I am currently in the AF but will prob be switching and going into the Army through the blue to green program. I was wondering if anyone has been through this process and can tell me how much of a pain in the butt it is.....

Negative replies about me going from into the Army not needed.

I am switching because the AF is making a lot of cuts which basically means I dont know if my job is as secure as it was when I first joined. Also the AF is changing paths and we are working along side the Army more. Supposablyu starting next year all deployments are going to be one year and we have already started working along side the Army with convoys. So with this I figured why not cross into a branch where I can get the job I want, maybe a bonus, have a secure job, and work through promotions faster.

I know I will get my rank
Quoted from goarmy.com "E-1 through E-5 will retain their grade and same date of rank.
All E-5's and above will have grade and MOS determined by EIS IAW with para 5 above
(E5s will retain current rank, unless, current MOS is over strength and they refuse to retrain in an MOS that allows E5 entry level training).
I already spoke with the recruiter and I have to retrain because the Army doesnt have my job.

Haven't been through that program, sorry, was in the Army back in 75.

Imagine you have done some researching but you need to consider, is the MOS you currently have going to be one that will still be used in the Army? Also, what bonuses will be available to you, etc? Check out the link below, in case you haven't yet.

CHECK THIS OUT, I AM IN THE ARMY AND HAVE SEEN THE PROCESS QUITE A FEW TIMES. IT ISN'T SUCH A PAIN IN THE BUTT FROM THE ARMY'S SIDE OF THE HOUSE. ONCE YOU GET IN, YOU WILL GO TO ONE OF THE MAIN TRAINING POSTS FOR ABOUT 4 WEEKS TO LEARN ARMY THINGS AND THEN SENT TO A PERMANENT DUTY STATION. THE PAIN IN THE REAR IS IN GETTING TO THAT POINT. YOU HAVE TO SECURE A RELEASE FROM THE AF AND THEN YOU HAVE TO GO TO MEPS AGAIN, AND PASS THE PHYSICAL AGAIN(ALTHOUGH NOT AS STRINGENT FOR PRIOR SERVICE) , AND YOU WILL WORK WITH AN ARMY RECRUITER DURING THIS WHOLE PROCESS. I DO BELIEVE I JUST READ A NEW DIRECTIVE THAT STREAMLINES THE PROCESS. ALSO, YOU HAVE TO GET A GRADE DETERMINATION DONE. I GAURENTEE YOU THEY ARE NOT GONNA LET YOU COME INTO THE ARMY AS AN E-5 UNLESS YOUR CAREER FIELD MATCHES UP DIRECTLY WITH AN ARMY MOS. AND EVEN THEN I DOUBT IT. THE ARMY'S THINKING IS THAT YOU CAN'T TELL OTHER PEOPLE WHAT TO DO IF YOU YOURSELF DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT. THEY WILL PROBABLY OFFER YOU ANOTHER JOB FOR WHICH YOU WILL HAVE TO BE TRAINED. I CAME TO HAWAII, BUT NOT BECAUSE THE ARMY THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A NICE PLACE FOR ME TO LIVE. IT IS BECAUSE THEY ARE GOING TO IRAQ(2 WEEKS FOR ME) AND THEY NEED PEOPLE. AND UNLIKE THE AF OUR TOURS ARE 1 YEAR, NOT 3OR4 MONTHS. TAKE ALL THIS INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN DECIDING. PROMOTIONS ARE ALSO ALOT FASTER IN THE ARMY. ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW BECAUSE WE ARE SO SHORT OF PEOPLE. THEY DO MAKE IT A LITTLE BIT OF A PAIN SO THAT THE PROCESS ITSELF WEEDS OUT THOSE WHO WILL GIVE UP FROM THOSE WHO WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET IN. THIS IS THE TYPE OF PERSON IT TAKES TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE LEVEL OF DEPLOYMENTS THAT WE GO THROUGH. ANY WAY GOOD LUCK AND MAYBE I'LL SEE YOU ON THE FRONT LINES, I KNOW THAT'S WHERE I'LL BE. I START MY 2ND TOUR IN IRAQ IN 2 WEEKS.

I went from Army to Air Force and am currently in the reserves. What you've heard about the Army is probaby true. The blue to green program is a good program, but not for me. I guess it really depends on the career field. If they are offering you a big bonus, go for it! Good luck regardless of what you do.

PS. Rank comes a lot quicker in the Army.
