I don't mean to be bitter, but I just wanted to know if the ridiculously prevalent misuse of the word "loose" for "lose" is starting to get on anyone else's nerves. It's hard to take some questions seriously when people ask about loosing their weight or virginity.
Am I alone in my frustration?

No, you're not alone in your frustration, and that's right up there with people who use an apostrophe in every plural word. Let's get it together boy's and girl's! (That was even hard to type.)Sheesh - it's like fingernails scraping down a blackboard!!!
your - you're
affect - effect
woman - women
The list is endless, but what's even worse - actual MANAGERS where I work make these horrid grammatical errors and they send out their e-mails to the whole company for all to snicker at! I just cringe when I see them. To me, people just lose all credibility and whatever illusion of intelligence they were trying to maintain. And here I go with my run-on sentence...

It's a commonly mis spelled word.
Loose, as in "There is something loose on my car"
Lose as in "I lost my keys"
Many people are not able to distinguish between the two spellngs, it's just one of those strange words in the English languge, try looking up how people mis spell the word "Bear" and "Bare"

The deficit is time limited. For the debt we tal about the year. The debt or surplace is the cummlative amount from all the years combined. Ex: if you started at 0 and had 1 trillion dollar deficit for each year for 16 years then the debt is 16 trillion but the deficit would just be the current year and equal to 1 trillion. Budgets do not have deficits or surpluses. They are just estimates of where the spending will happen. Only reality creates deficit or debt. Tha is why they say Clinton produced a surplus but he never did. His budget projected one but we had negative cash flow for the year (deficit).

No you are definitely not alone in your frustration. I am beginning to think that people no longer learn correct grammar and spelling. But I am "old school" so we had to learn both English and spelling in school. I must say if it was easier to "loosen" weight from the body, it would be easier to lose it. Kidding. Have a good night!

I share your frustration. It's just one of the many, many errors in spelling and word usage that drive me crazy here. No one seems to know the difference between "your" and "you're," "there," "they're," and "their." And don't get me started on "know" vs. "no." How hard is it to use these words correctly? And even more important, why don't people care that they sound not just ignorant, but stupid?

I don't like it when people get loose and lose confused. Or weather and whether, either. Or when they misspell definitely as "definately." Or when they abbreviate your as "ur." We should put a shun on such people! And we should let them know it: "Your in a shun!"

no. you are not. unfortunately a lot of the folk that ask that type of question are "loose" with their thoughts, "loose" with their moral standards, (unfortunatley) and and those of us who actually want to help "lose" interest in doing so....!
