Because they're fast!!!
Best jet for just personal flat-out fun is a L29 Delphin combat jet. You can buy a 1969 L29 for as low as $50k at www.barnstormers.com but you'll need about $1k/hr to buy enough Jet A fuel to fly it.
If you want a new jet check out a Viper Jet at http://www.viperjet.com/
Fast fast fast!!! :)

Jet engines are also more reliable than piston engines: less likely to fail. You can make large abrupt power changes to a jet engine without shocking it. And you can fly higher, up above most of the weather and turbulence.

As an ex-Korean jock (F86d, F89j and the F102 a and b) I would sure like to get my hands on the Raptor (F/A 22). But now, at my age, I have to settle for the several sims I have on this box. As much as I loved the ol' dollar-deuce, this stuff today, with vector thrust and doing the mach without going AB is great, but I guess I was just born too soon.

Well it depends on the nature of your question.
Jets are faster and more fuel efficient than turboprops for any specific number of passengers that two comparable aircraft, one a jet and one a turboprop, can carry.
They are faster and have better performance than turboprops.
Jets can better blend with the fast moving flow of busy airport traffic.
Jets are quieter than turboprops.
However, turboprops, at any specific size, have better short-field capability. They are better suited for short flights. As such, they are more flexible.

because they are fast, and fly high. there are new light jets being certified all the time. It is hard to pick out a favorite. But here are two Citation and Gulfstream.

It's like driving a really nice, fast car. Plus, jets fly IFR most of the time, and flying IFR is really, really fun.

Well although when it comes to fuel consumption turboprops/props win hands down.
Although jets are usually more quiet, luxurious and modern.

It's a sense of freedom. For thousands of years man has dreamed of flying, and now we can. It's a primeval thing. Early man looked at the birds and thought "what would it be like to soar like them?"

Adolf Galland...a WW2 German air ace said it best when he first flew the new Me-262. (the first operational jet fighter)
".......it was as though I were being pushed by angels...."
This was my experience too when I first transitioned to jets.
Unbelievable smoothness...liquid-like.
