Has anyone here tried a detox diet? How did it work, and would you suggest it to others? Also, how much weight could/did you lose by doing a detox diet for, say, 2 weeks?

I'm actually gearing up for one now. For me, it'll be juice fasting. Hence the need for some psychological pep talking. :)

If you've never tried a detox diet, I'd suggest trying it out for a few days to start. You can flush the initial crap out of your system by eating JUST fruits and veggies (preferably raw) and plenty of spring/filtered water for three days straight. You - will - feel - like - hell. By day three, most of the toxins that have been stirred up are being flushed out, and you should feel a huge energy kick by day 4. You can help ease the symptoms of this by using enemas (or preferably colonic irrigation), getting plenty of rest, getting some exercise to speed the excretion process (sweating helps), saunas, detoxifying herbal baths and body wraps. This initial discomfort lasts a day or two, and it feels like you have the flu (nausea, headache, body ache, chills, fatigue, depression, tearfulness, irritability, skin eruptions, sinus congestion, diarrhea, cramping...). You may notice your skin taking on a "sour" odor. Metallic. Just...stinky. This is crud working its way through your pores, so bathe often. The body wraps do help in this process, and if done right, can help you to shrink several inches all over in just one treatment. They are, however, expensive ($80-150).

If you want to detox more slowly, you can just switch to simpler foods. Go for organic food if you can afford it. If you can't, then just aim for very simple foods: beans, peas, lentils, whole grains (red river cereal, oatmeal, etc), nuts, seeds (sunflower, flax, etc), brown rice, fish, sea salt, fresh ground pepper, etc. Get LOTS of veggies in there, and avoid anything processed. So, have your broccoli, but don't use cheese whiz on it. Snack on fruits. Try to cut down on salt and pre-fab seasonings (loaded with crap), and focus on learning to appreciate the flavour of the FOOD, not the seasoning. Use things like lemon and lime juices, light soy sauce, and peanut butter to season foods. Also avoid saturated fats and sugar. Good fats are okay, like fatty fish (salmon), canola and olive oil. Used in moderation, these apparently can actually HELP weight loss. Just cutting the processed stuff from your diet, getting more fibre and drinking enough water will help you to lose weight safely and healthily! Good luck.
