When I was in one I filled out the MMPI test - they gave it to me
to answer for the next days activities.
You could take something to read, like a book - but beware!
Alot of people in these places like to steal! I had my pajamas
stolen within 1 hour of my arrival! I was appaled! But they look
for this stuff. some are actually that bad off.
You could also sleep - if they put you on meds and you've never
taken them before - they could cause you to get to sleep. I did
that for 5 days. It helped with the stress.
You also can join a group - and discuss why you are there in the
first place. You never go into a place like this and do "nothing"
as a rule. They like you to participate....

Might be hard to have "fun" in a place like that, but I think I would try to do something relaxing. I enjoy creative outlets like photography, drawing and painting. I'd probably catch up on my reading too...there are alot of classic novels I never seem to find the time to read....out here in the real world.

Read books, do crosswords, go for walks outside (if allowed), I'd probably take up smoking again, write poetry or in a journal, play cards, do jigsaw puzzles, watch TV, try to find a friend, anything to keep my mind occupied.

I would paint with watercolors. Painting and sculpting helps a person release unknown and known demons.
