The Bible talks about religion, in a way that most people do not. Since the Bible is the word of God, then it is clear that God does not view religion as a fad.
Supposing you were the eternal God who created everything including people. Wouldn't you want people to know you and love you as you also know and love them? That is why God gave us the Bible.
May He bless you.

well if it is, it is the longest fad in history. We are all within the spirit of the light. to walk around and preach it I would call that a fad in my lifetime I have seen many groups of people come in go with this kind of fad . the light ask us to not pray in public but in the privacy of are own hart and soles . Church was developed so people had some thing to do on a Sunday. and for some there lives were so bad that there beliefs became there salvation to cope with what they do not have the courage to fix in them selves. they think if they believe hard enough that the light will make it all better . but if they sit silently and listen for the spirit inside of them and take charge of there lives and move towards there gaols not to just pray. this is why so many are and will stay were they are in life waiting for a miracle to happen to them it is just like sitting on the couch watching TV every day and saying why cant I get a job. like it is going to walk into the door at any moment . but back to your fad . some are . definitely.

Is religion a fad in the eyes of God?
Is God a fad in the eyes of religion?
=========================
1.
"Once I dreamed I was a butterfly,
and now I no longer know whether
I am Chuang-tzu, who dreamed I was
a butterfly, or whether I am a butterfly
dreaming that I am Chuang-tzu."
2.
A cat was sitting on a fence, smiling.
Then the cat had disappeared, but his smile remained.
3.
That the conception “God” was not illusory, it is necessary somehow
to convince in His( Its) connection with reality.
We can not be pleased with the simple description and analyse of the usage
of this conception in religious speech.
The statement, that we can know nothing about the God is wrong.
In this case God is practically denied.
The God, about whom (which) I know nothing,
for me is not already the God and any dialogue with It( Him) is impossible.

I lean towards yes in some ways. Many people use religion as the trump all card trip to heaven, yet do some pretty nasty things between church visits. Religion is good for establishing a moral compass, but I think what goes on between you and God is just that... between you and God.

It's a really long fad, considering that it has been around practically as long as humans. Although it wasn't always the same god.
