Check your local newspapers for someone selling it, and yes garage and yard sales will work. There are also second-hand stores that may sell some for cheap, like Salvation Army. Overstock.com or Ebay may be handy. If you don't mind spending a fe dollars more, most mattress shops can sell your basic futon for about $60 to $70.

Have you checked Salvation Army & or any other used/second hand stores in your area. I shop alot at second hand, you wouldn't believe how many really good quality finds you'll get.
Carefull of matresses thought that could be real nasty, I'd look for the frame used & buy the matress New!!!

Often times your town will have a paper called the "penny saver" or something similar. Other than that I would just look in the newspaper or go to garage sales, like you said.

Futons and the mattress are more expensive than that. I looked for one for my son at Christmas and the cheapest one I found was at IKEA.

Check the newspapers for someone who wants to get rid of one. They are not at all comfortable.
