I have owned a Dell Inspiron 2600 laptop since 2001 and I have only had a few minor repairs done under warranty. I have never owned any of the other brands listed, but I have been pleased with my Dell laptop thus far. I have owned a Compaq and I hated it with a passion because I was always having some kind of problem with the operating system. I had two hard drives replaced and after the last one failed I bought a Dell.

I have a thing for HP computers check out there summer sales on HP.com
HP has great products and they dont get you with all the add ons like Dell will.
Macs are if you are into and Graphics programs are the best but for a good laptop get ready to fork out 2 grand

If you like creative projects (making music, movies, photos, etc) and are sick of the "blue screen of death" and pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL, I strongly suggest you get a Mac. (Apple) Mac laptops can run Windows programs, but I think most people find that the Mac programs end up easier to use and better designed.
If you like serious gaming, you may prefer Windows, and should opt for HP or IBM. Do not buy Dell.

COMPAQ PRESARIO....mine is 5 years old but its still so cool and healthy. Unlike other laptops which just begin to give problems at the end of 3-4 years.
The second system i got recently for my husband is a DELL and its really not what i expected it!

Compaq , Dell, and Sony are all very good brands , i have a dell and am very satisfied.

I have a dell and it is good, function wise. The customer service is a pain in the a** though.
