What do you focus on? How can you focus on nothing when you are praying to the God of the universe? Doesn't your imagination play any part in this at all? Do you think about nothing when you focus or do you focus on nothing? Do you pray about nothing? Is God able to become nothing for those who pray? Is imagination a bad thing, since it was given to us by God?

You know what my friend?. You said this as a joke. BUT.

YOU ARE 150% CORRECT.

JESUS HIMSELF ALWAYS LOOKED UP...INTO THE HEAVENS AND PRAYED WITH HIS EYES OPEN.

Jesus Christ Himself, never 1 time, ever looked DOWN and prayed.

Now..........any questions?

When I close my eyes to pray (and I don't always do this), it is to eliminate visual distractions so that I can better focus on prayer. Sometimes I need to just close out the world for a few minutes, to better pay attention to what I am doing.

It's like turning off the TV so I can really pay attention to the person in front of me. Prayer is a conversation, after all, with God.

I pray about all kinds of things, not nothing. Why pray about nothing? That would make no sense at all.

No, imagination is not a bad thing. It is just another tool that is often misused. Paint, for example, can be used to create master-pieces like the Mona Lisa, or it can create gangster tags. It is the use of the tool that is good or bad, not the tool itself.

You don't focus on nothing; you focus on talking to God. Like having a conversation with someone.

Hey, you got seven questions for the price of one. Give me the points or I'm telling very high people at Yahoo Answers, and then you'll be sorry......

I close my eyes to pray when I'm around others. It's like it's just you and God then. But I leave them open if I'm alone. I look out the window or something.

Give me the POINTS!

Are you another person on this sight that is here to insult others or is this a serious question? I will give you the benefit of the doubt once and say that I close my eyes because it helps me to find a place of peace where my true self can talk to my God.

to close one’s eyes is one way we enable God’s darkening glory to come back upon us. Jesus himself cautioned such environmental darkness for prayer whilst giving us policies, he cautioned that we into our closet, close the door, and pray to our Father who sees in secret (Matthew 6). The God Jesus is suggesting that flow off someplace on my own, pull a prayer scarf over our heads or a minimum of pull down our eyelids so as that we enter a private darkness to be with God--or extra useful pronounced, that God could be with us. interior the remaining of our eyes, in regardless of darkness we enter, we continually take a seat because of the fact the travellers of God who comes as and whilst He desires. to boot the above, we've yet another advantages of remaining eyes. Our interest in the direction of God at the same time as doing prayers on closed eyes is basically no longer disturbed because of the fact there will be a sparkling comer or respectful individual stepping into or some bugs showing performs. whilst a deferential one comes, we would desire to continually understand by capacity of breaking the prayers. The bugs useful and exciting play will disturb the praying ideas. Our human natures is basically no longer consistent. We get greed, anger, jealous. our surroundings of our place the place we do prayers might have some naughty concerns. pleasing toddlers will charm to us.this variety of disturbances will stop our real prayers. to circumvent such issues, it extremely is often good to close the eyes for the duration of prayer. thus we've an inner heart connection with God.

For me, it increases my concentration and is a sign of vulnerability to God, that I trust Him.

But I have also prayed with my eyes open too. That is also an experience.

well you close your eyes to stop the distraction of this world, and it is possible to let you mind randomly roam until you find the place of peace inside of you where your worldly cares are not this is the best place to pray, but it is just an opinion

I agree, wipe out distractions. I also believe its respectful to bow your head and close your eyes. We are talking to God, and He deserves all the respect and praise. We bow to kings and queens. Isnt God the greatest king of all????

its so that you aren't distracted by everything around you.
cause if you're like me, and pretty much have ADD,
distractions are crazy.
but you don't have to close your eyes when you pray.
its not like it wont work if you don't.
its simply a choice.
like, me, i keep my eyes open.
idk why, just personal preference, really.
there is no correct or incorrect way to pray.
just say what's on your heart
and God will listen and know exactly what you're saying
even if you don't.
