if you are a business person, and you are closing on a business, business attire. These lawyers and realtors and mortgage people may well be your clients soon! Unless you are selling surfboards, try to look like you are in business. And even if it is surfboards, at least try to look professional; throw on a tie, lose the rubber flipflops..
If it is your house that you going to live in, business casual, or dressy casual.. Even if it is your house, you want to be taken seriously, like you actually have the money to pay for what you are buying, and that you are taking this responsibility seriously. If you wear cutoffs and a t-shirt, for example, you would look like you are all ready to default on the loan, and move out in the middle of the night..
And everyone else will be dressed nicely, I guess if this doesn't bother you, you could wear whatever you want.
I recently applied for a new job. I do not own a good dress, and I do not wear heels. I showed up in a pair of dressy white pants, and a very dressy pink blouse, I matched some conservative jewelry to the blouse, and had my hair neat, and my makeup on. I got a second interview.

I've been to four closings and would wear the same sort of thing you wear for eating at a sit-down restaurant (like Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesdays, etc.)
Now I know people go to those restaurants in t-shirts with the arms cut off and raggedy jeans, but I would wear a nice pair of slacks with a nice shirt or a skirt and top.
Not as dressy as going to a wedding.

Whatever you want, as long as it's nice, tasteful, and in good repair. Show no toes. Not stated here if you are the buyer or the seller of the real property in question, but in this event you are at the very least here the customer of your attorney, and no one's servant.

Your clothes should be clean, in good repair, fit properly and not have any controversial messages on them. That is, unless you make $500 an hour. Then you should wear a suit as well.
