I know that alot of dogs do this. I've taken mine to the vet and they gave me this stuff to sprinkle over his food to make it taste aweful and he still does it. Today I fed him really good and afterwards he pooped and I saw him with a turd in his mouth and I screamed (BANDIT) and he knew he was doing wrong and he immediately spit it out and ran and put himself in his crate. Is this a hopeless case. I have never seen that guy on animal planet talk about this. You know the dog whisper guy?

To whoever said he is probably is in a crate all day, HE IS NEVER CRATED! He has a dog run. Please don't make assumptions.

Keep doing what your doing. Bandit has a habit that he is about to break. You need to keep and eye on him and tell him "no" "drop it" "leave it" when he is tempted. He will soon get the idea that he is not to eat the stuff. Kennel dogs are often bored and will pick up this bad habit.

oh... yes... at 9 weeks they do this... not always for a mineral or any other kind of lack... I just took the pooper scooper and threw the poop into the pasture and the dog started to poop in the pasture. She decided that was where I wanted it. As to growling and barking at you... you have NOT taught him that YOU are pack leader! You MUST teach him this and QUICKLY! He's trying to challenge you for the position of pack leader and if you don't become Pack Leader, he will have the right to discipline YOU and he'll do it by growling, lunging, biting and dog's don't make good decision for humans as Pack Leader. I don't know what an indian mongrel is, but if he's going to be a big dog, you should do the alpha roll.

my dog used to do this too. Walk your dog if at all possible!!!! If the stuff the vet gave you doesnt work you need to clean up the mess immediately so your dog wont have access to it! I'm sorry but this is the only solution that really works with my dog. Either go out with the dog or pick it up immediately (both is best). And hey... at least your dog is recycling (haha) Good luck!

He is probably acting out because he's in a crate all day. Be careful making too much of a fuss when he does it, he may just keep doing it for the bad attention. Praise him more often when he does good things. Keep him busy looking for treats you hide inside toys. You could try spraying orange juice or lemon juice on the poo before he eats it. Dogs hate citris.

This is one of the most common questions we get asked. This is not a behavior problem, but is a normal dog behavior. The only real way to stop it is to pick up the poop as soon as he goes. Don't get angry at a dog for being a dog. Did you mix the For-Bid into his food at every meal for 5 days? I have seen it work, but not in every case.

The following is from Wikpedia (link below):
"A lot of theories have been suggested as to why dogs eat feces. Are they missing something in their diet? Generally not.
Dogs who eat their feces usually do not have a dietary deficiency. Some medical problems, however, can contribute to coprophagy including severe disorders of the pancreas (pancreatic insufficiency) or intestine, severe malnutrition from massive parasitic infestations, or starvation. These cases are rare...."
Some dogs, especially those in kennel situations, may eat feces because they are anxious or stressed. One researcher suggests that dogs who have been punished by their owners for defecating inappropriately start to think any defecation is wrong, so they try to eliminate the evidence.

Yeah thats gross. Just clean up the poop right after he goes. Don't even give him the chance to eat it. Eventually he will just forget all about it because it will never be available to him.

I once had a vet tell me to put meat tenderizer on the dog's food. It seemed to work well and when I forgot to put it on she would be out in the yard munching! eeewwww!

clean up your dogs poo more often. Im not completely sure why dogs do this, ive read it's instincts and ive read that it means the dog is lacking something in his/her diet. All i can suggest is you clean up after your dog as often as possible.
