Do you have a baby girl? Most of my friends who has a baby girl finds it very difficult in getting them to eat healthy portions to a stage where they get so panicky and stressed. Do not force feed your kid though, otherwise they'll develop a phobia on eating.
Should try other types of food at this age. Just get a good parenting book from the library and see what recipes are recommended. I think at that age we started giving spaghetti bolognese, shepherds pie, stew, soup. But our kids could manage solid food at that age. Variety is the key and don't forget fun foods like yoghurt and jelly. Other thing to note is that you need to make dining time more interesting - you need to exaggerate a bit like saying 'Hmmm....this is delicious' or 'Look we are having ?????' and then describe the food in an interesting way like background, where it comes from and what its made of etc..

Porridge??? (Goldilocks?) I didn't know anyone still used that. If she doesn't like it then don't serve it. She's entitled to have preferences. Do YOU like porridge?
Your daughter is not going to let herself starve. Offer a variety of foods with bright and varied colors from all the food groups, which should be the same things the other family members are having. Whenever possible, make sure she eats with everyone else.

When I was 1 year and a half my mother had a difficult time feeding me porridge too. It was so difficult for her I remembered every feeding time, it is accompanied by a cane by my side and tempers from my mom.
Well I grow up now and tell you why. I just hate rice and till now i still dont like rice. When I have rice, it must be accompanied by very sour or spicy stuff.
I grow up with digestion problem. I have difficulty digesting rice and porridge. The stomach acid in my stomach is so low that i take magnesium supplements to aid digestion. All my friends have notice my queer habits of finishing up my vegetables and only a spoonful of rice. I am not dieting which many pple think i am.
feed her something else.

dont force her to eat because eating is suppose to be pleasurable experience. Try something new! There are all kinds of varities of babyfood out today. At 17 months old you may want to introduce her to some table foods. Mashed potatoes etc. If you feel that she must eat her porridge then add applesauce to it or mashed bannanas or some kind of mashed fruit. Believe me your child will eat when she is hungry, don't worry about her! Before you know it you will be asking How can I get her to stop eating so much porridge!

Toddlers go through eating spurts. Sometimes that eat everything and sometimes they decide not too. Make sure that she is drinking plenty and give her more foods with a high caloric and nutritional content to make up for the meals she skips. Drinks like insure make up for a lot that is lost when they are not eating regularly. Don't force her to eat or you may create more problems for her..Watch her closely and if she starts to lose weight or look ill then take her to the pediatrician. It is perfectly normal for babies not to eat at times. Try different things like fruit, wheat crackers etc. Sometimes all they will eat are little snacks like that. She will start eating again soon.

So feed her something else. There are a lot of other things that are better for her anyway. Try mashed bananas or avocados or pureed sweet potatoes. Most babies like all of those.
YIKES!
I just realized that said *17* months and not *7* months.
YES......a 17 month old should be on table food....she should be eating almost everything you eat!
