Do you think a young girl is immodest if she wears shorts?

Question

We have several friends that have even their infant daughters in ankle length skirts. I just don't see how the kids can play in clothes like that. On the other hand, some people look at our daughter as if she is not dressed modestly if she's in shorts and a t-shirt. At what point is a young girl dressed immodestly?

There's nothing wrong with a kid in shorts and a t-shirt, especially because it's summer. Unless the shorts are really really short, it isn't immodest.

All this worry over an infant?! Oh, come on! Children shouldn't have to worry about such modesty issues until they are halfway through grade school.

Then again, the 19th-century kids wore very long skirts. Ever read Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books.

I say forget about those busybodies and dress your kid comfortably in shorts and a T-shirt. Maybe you could compromise and dress the kid in knee-length shorts, if you can find them in that size!

I think a t-shirt and shorts is acceptable. When the shorts get to short or the shirt gets too short then we have an issue. Seek God on this one. You have to make the decision and you have to realize that some things we practice in religion are traditions and not biblical. However I think a women does not need to show all she has to be attractive. Nor do I believe that you have to dress like a nun to honor God. There is a happy medium you just have to find what is cmfortable and acceptable for you and your family.

I don't think wearing shorts and a t-shirt is immodest at all. Now if you put her in daisy dukes and a halter top then I would say yes she is immodest. Ankle length skirts sounds like Penticostal or Amish or something. I wouldn't worry about your daughter being immodest. Sounds like she is wearing appropriate clothing to me.

NO! I think that my daughter looks to cute in her shorts and t-shirts! Now short skirts are another thing! Unless it is winter and she has on her thick stockings and even then they are almost to her upper knee! At anyrate, I won't put her in booty shorts or anything. She loves to wear long dresses. Probably because she always sees mommy doing it!lol

Try as you might, you can't please everyone. At my church, we dress however we are comfortable. We believe God is more interested in the purity of our hearts than the clothes we're wearing. If it's true that God sees us through the blood of Jesus, I find it hard to believe that shorts would bother Him. I know of an Apostolic church where even the men dress in long sleeved shirts buttoned all the way to the top. We don't serve different Gods. It just depends on the doctrine of your church and the convictions of your heart.

It sounds like you might live near Almish people? I am not an expert on modesty,but don't you think shorts at a reasonable lenght are OK. Some people like to judge and some people over do things in their religions. Use good taste with a good concience

At the point where she dresses like a tramp for attention. NOT calling your baby a tramp here, please don't think that. But you get what I mean, I mean the girls on MTV with no respect for themselves.

And if it's hot outside and she's playing, I don't see the problem with her being in shorts and a T shirt. I thought all little kids dressed like that.

You just have to keep the word "modes" in your mind. There's nothing wrong with a t-shirt and shorts. It's when they start showing all that they have there is a problem.
