Is there anything you can offer? "New Magic Cure"? She is only 45 yo's old. She was in a terrible car accident a few years ago and her neourologist seems to give her no hope. I'm in love with her and want to try everything I can for her. She is warm, witty and funny at times, but then she has "moments" when she seems like she has to think hard before she speaks. I've known her for over 35 years and we recently got together after all that time I would Love to marry her, but I'm afraid of the future. Any suggestions or things I need to know about this to help her? Thank You.

First off Brendy, I'm not your "Buddy" Second a man will try anything for the women he loves. Third You are not a Doctor so why did you answer? I will try anything and everything to help her. I've heard of new cures for Alzheimers etc. They are out there, Yahoo answers goes all over the world. If I can find new information by asking this question, who are you to answer me the way you did? It offends me that you don't think I'm smart enough to see through the fakes. I'm sending messages around the world to Doctors in the hope of helping her. Sorry, but you really set me off.

Brendy I only hope that you can find someone that cares for you as much as I care for her. As far as me not having any "Buddies" I spent a lifetime in the Marines fighting for you and your right to be ignorant. The Men I saw die in combat are my "Buddies" You have not earned the right to call me "Buddy" They Have. Semper Fi MGST WOODALL USMC RETIRED.

Brendy, you are the most selfish person I have ever had the unfortuanate experiance to come acrossed. If you had any clue at all you would see the other answers below yours and the great help they have given me and Kris. We have spent our time reading through the websites and talking about what to do and how we can understand each other better. But we wanted to see if we had any more answers and that is why we are responding to your last crock. We are working together and hoping for a lifetime of understanding. So here is a message from her. Sorry Brendy that you have nothing better to do with your time than call people liars, and worry about how much time between messages, My Fiance was a US Marine that has fought and seen things you will never have any idea about. I just thank God that you are not my doctor, because your bedside manner and your lack of caring Stinks!

There are no magical cures, but here are some links for you. The first few deal with dementia itself, and the rest deal with tips and advice on caring for someone with dementia. Please remember that a real doctor will not dispense diagnostic, prognostic, or otherwise personal-case medical information online for both legal and ethical reasons.

first, brendy, real doctors DO visit this board. i am a psychiatrist who has been board certified for 5 years and i work at one of the foremost universities in the country.

i try to be helpful by educating people so they are empowered and able to seek the treatment they need. the other respondent is correct, i don't dispense diagnostic or prognostic opinions because it is not possible to do so without personally examining someone.

what i can tell you, basscatcher, is that although i am not a neuropsych expert, i am fairly certain there are no "new magic cures" for cognitive disorders (including dementias) due to head trauma (or anything else). i wish there was. usually the cutting edge treatment (almost always experimental) is done by NIMH (national institute oh mental health) or NIH (national institute of health). their websites are easily accessible and have "current research studies" sections. the other place to check would be the nearest university hospital as they usually are involved in research as well.

good luck.

Sorry to inform you of this but REAL physicians would never visit this board. Only answers you get here will be uneducated guesses.
BTW: I don't believe a word you have written here, purely just another "oh pity me plea",and obviously neither does anyone else, considering the fact that 3 hours have passed and you only received one other reply. Read the next poster's last sentence; just a reiteration of exactly what I stated.
IF you truly love this woman, as you say, you would not be "afraid of the future."
