Yes, from personal expeiriance. You if plan on taking the pup to the pound. If it stays by your side all the time wherever you go without a leash. It means the dog has realized you have taken it in under your wing and that you are providing for him. So he thinks he is forever in debt to you. So he will not understand why you gave him away and will be depressed. Believe it or not. Dogs do suffer from depression. And I'm sure you have bonded to him and you will regret it if you give him away. Because the kind you find and take in and do follow you and never do anything bad are always the good ones and are VERY loyal. You'll regret it if you take him to the pound.

Why let go at all -you'd be doing a most wonderful thing if you took the dog and gave it a home -you'd be rewarded with a lifetime of pure love and devotion. Most strays starve to death which takes many weeks and very painful for the body starts to eat itself and takes a long time fo vital organ to give out. All a dog wants is someone to love. If you absolutely can't take then see if the Human Society-in the phone book or a no kill shelter or ASPCA will take--Do Not take to your local pound. I took in a stray who I named Blondie and because he was badly abused will not come into the house so we fenced in part of backyard and gave him garden shed with straw as a house-at night he now after 2+ years will come into garage or when too hot outside-run the fan for him fo no airC.in the garage. When he cam h always looked sad now looks as if he's always smiling .Happy dog and happy me.

Everytime I have taken in a stray I had gotten a great dog. The frist was Gipper, she was the uglyest dog in the world. What she did not have in looks she made up in brains. She was the smartest dog and saved my little sister twice. Just enought was the next 6lbs of fur and thought he was a dodie. Both lived to be every old. Take her coming as a sign she was to be yours.

At the start of your question you said "my dog" that should answer your question. You claim the dog as yours and you are the one taking care of it. Lets just say you didn't find the dog he/she found you. I think you should keep the dog. You were ment for each other.

To answer your question yes it will make it harder you have already made that bond why break it.

Yes, it will cause separation anxiety for both of you. You are soul-mates.
