I like the back road idea. I also think that stopping every so often to see an attraction or having a picnic is a good idea. Camping out at night is fun. Then treat yourselves to an expensive hotel. But, if your in a hurry to get there have one drive while the other sleeps. If your able to read in a car do it. Play a game where you each take turns telling each other what attracted you to each other, what you like since your married etc. and stop in every state to have sex in a different position or in an unusual place.

Pit stops with plenty of water, some good food, reading material and music. Don't forget to be more understanding as close confines for 36 hours can be trying even on extremely good natured persons. Alternate driving and map reading to find out who is better at which and accept the arrangements...Allocate sufficient time for the trip and have fun!

Portable DVD with headphones! Each carry a set of DVD movies you enjoy. Watch during driving shifts and chill out. Also, take along some music CDs you both can agree on.

Take a small BBQ and stop at parks to cook your meals. Take a break to shop for something you need. Take a walk, just use your imagination, but get out of the car every few hours.
