Picked up the phone and called to see how they are doing ... showed an interest in them and offered to see them or to help them. Calling a person can mean an awful lot, especially to someone who is older or not feeling well. Too often, people can feel like they are forgotten or that nobody wants to take the time to call them, as if they are no longer important. But calling a person can make all the difference in the world, and it is very important to do something to bring a smile to those who are burdened.
I remember when my grandmother had outlived all of her friends, and my grandfather had been dead for many years. She often sat around, almost as though she was wondering when her time would come to die. It was important to keep in touch with her, and to visit and even if she complained or cried, it was important to let her know that we were all still there with her.
I went to visit her in her nursing home one day, after a 3 hour journey. The door to her room was closed with a sign saying not to enter. I tried to find a nurse, but couldn't locate one, so I went in and found her sleeping. Or, so I thought. Moments later I was informed that she had passed away just before I got there.
I like to think that my grandmother was looking forward to my visit before she passed away. I know she knew that she was the reason why I was making the trip to see her, so I hope she fully realized that somebody still cared.

I try to keep some of these things a secret between me and God. It is hard to do because I so enjoy it. I have a quote on my refrigerator that says "To enjoy living is to enjoy giving. " Someone was very kind to me today. I had what I thought might be a melanoma on my face, actually on my nose. I was very afraid because the doctor was going to put a needle in my nose so he could cut a piece to biopsy. The nurse let me hold her hand and I squeezed very tight. I was very grateful for her kindness and concern. I will not know for a week wether it was a cancer but the Doctor took it out by the root. He also was very kind.

I try to listen to people all day at work, pray with them when they come into my office hurting, and just do what I can for them day by day. It's a blessing to see the Lord answer those prayers too. One girl came in upset because she didn't have a place to live and the manager of the club heard about it, called a real estate agent that he knew and paid their first months' rent on a place for them. Things like this happen when we pray for people don't they?

I work as a nurse for the elderly. I pray each day to keep my patients safe and to let me handle anything that comes my way. I try (with The Lord's help) to be as kind and gentle and patient with them as I can. I also try my hardest to make their families feel secure knowing that I will be taking care of their loved ones. Even before I was a Christian, I worked with these people. And I always worked my hardest to do right by them. Now, I realize that God put me here to do good for these people. I thank Him for that everyday. So, with God's grace, hopefully I took away someone's pain, or stopped long enough to listen to someone's concern. I also got the heck scratched out of me by a lady with dementia and didn't lose it! (a sense of humor goes a long way!) So, hopefully God will continue to bless my patients and I.

I bathed my bed ridden grandmother and took care of her while she was ill. My goal each day is to do something good for another, whether I feel like it or not. I always check my attitude, because I deal with people over the phone I have to be kind and let my voice, tone and words reflect God's love.

made my friend to go out to ice cream because I knew she needed to talk...boy we both needed it. she is having problems with her older sister, who's 19, and is losing her faith. she doesn't go to mass, and since she's moved out has stopped wearing her scapular and such. I talked to her about my frustrations with my mom who is pregnant with her 9th, but has been driving me up the wall!! we both helped each other, and since I have an older sister who has run away 3 years ago and gotten into drugs and stuff, much against our will, no matter how many times I called her to try help her find her way, she won't listen, so I gave my friend some insight, about how she might have to leave it up to her older sister to find her way back to the Church...I also babysat all night while my moms friend was having a baby (first boy out of 7 girls!!!!) I just love helping with things like that! God bless! (oh, I'm roman Catholic, in case you were wondering!)

I work with the elderly and one of my favorite ladies was having a hair dilemma. She is 83 and fabulous. Family was busy and she couldn't find anyone to take her to the salon so I did her hair for her, curling iron and all. She has beautiful long white hair.

I offered help to an overworked co-worker.
I bought my sick kitty some kitty toys, a brush, and some live kitty grass to settle his tummy.
I invited my brother in law for dinner who is alone and confused.
