Mother and Father live seperate. Father is controlling. He was very mentally and physically abusive in our relationship. Now has joint custody. I need advice.

I was in a very physically and verbally abusive relationship for 8 years. I shared custody of my son. Butu I fought hard I now have full custody of my son. My new husband and I are now raising my son together. And his biological father has slowly faded out of my sons life. first off how old is the child and can you prove he is abusing the child??
