No, anyone who is of the LDS faith can be married wherever they like. However, it is encouraged and taught in our faith that an LDS couple be sealed in an LDS Temple. It's very similar to Catholics... if you aren't married in a Catholic church, your marriage is not sanctioned by the Catholic Church. The same pretty much goes here. I've had many LDS friends who had not lived their lives according to the word of wisdom, or the way we are supposed to live our lives (clean living, etc...) and were not able to be married in the temple at that time. But they can repent and work toward it and be sealed together at a later time if they wish. To learn more, visit www.lds.org

Only Mormons in good standing can be married in the Temple, however you can be an active member of the mormon church and get married outside of the temple and still be in good standing, however we believe that Marriage performed in the temple of god by someone who holds the proper authority can marry a couple for all of eternity and not simply "till death do we part". Therefore temple marriages are strongly encouraged.

Yes and no. The person they marry in the temple is special. They are sealed together forever. The can get divorced in civil court and remarry several times, but when they die, their spouse is the one they were sealed with in the temple. Yes, Mormons do divorce and remarry. I know. I have Mormon relatives. They remarry in regular churches or before judges, etc. just like anybody else.

Yes, only if they are born into the church or become converts. They also believe that if they are married into their choice temples they are also sealed together for all eternities.
That is Mormon belief, NOT Christian beliefs. The Bible say's contrary to that. There is NO marriage taken place in Heaven. It's in the book of Mathew. READ BELOW..
The Holy Bible, Mathew 22:29 -30 Jesus Christ says: You do error in not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. 22:30, For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given into marriage, but are as angels of God in Heaven.
Mormons still believe in the eternal marriage. That's to bad, because if they cannot believe in the True Scripture from Christ, they will be enternally dammed for following their Prophets and false Teachers...These are the last days and Christ said people will listen to what their iching ears want to tell them. And he warn us about false prophets and teachers in the last days. People will follow and obey them by the droves, unless they surrender themselves to the True Christ, not the Mormon Christ, but our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ!!!

From what I understand...Latter Day Saints prefer to get sealed in the Temple instead of the church because they have what is then called a Celestial Marriage. A celestial marriage is where the wife is sealed to the husband for eternity. You have to get a temple admit to be sealed in the Temple, which is approved by their church leadership.
If they get married in a traditional LDS church or in a non-LDS facility their marriage is not a celestial marriage. By celestial, it means that when that they are married not just until death do you part but FOREVER.
Moral of this story....make sure if you get married in a celestial marriage you want to be married to that person for eterniity!!

no it is not.... the mormon church will marry in the chapel, or you can even be married by another church if you want to be. the only thing that the temple has to do with marriage is the eternal sealing process

As others have indicated, most members prepare themselves spiritually and desire to be sealed in the temple with their spouse. We do believe, that through the priesthood power, we can be sealed forever as families. Some members choose to marry outside of the church hoping, I imagine, that their spouse will one day join the church and then be married in the Temple.
Ms. Cherrypopsicle quoted Mathew 22:29-30. It says, as she pointed out, that marriages are not “performed” in Heaven. It does not, as she implies, say that marriage does not exist in Heaven. It is also not contrary to the Bible. Christ, in Mathew 16:19, gives Peter the sealing power. Christ himself states that “I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of Heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven.” If an ordinance is performed by the Priesthood power, the only non-Christian belief would be to deny that a marriage, thus performed, would not be eternal.
I hope that this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.

well, if you want to get married elsewhere (and yes, Mormons MUST marry Mormons to 'make the faith') you have to 'ask the permission of an elder' and not just any elder.. it's got to be a grade a deacon in the faith. You must court for no less than 6 months.. you need to wait at least a year to 'procreate'.. and no more than 4 children! (Kind of sucks, eh? yeah, I know all about the Mormon faith.)

No. Only Mormons can get married in temples, but they (we) can get married anywhere, though it will only last for this life.
