i've grown up with bad ear infections and even had tubes twice as a child. i wouldn't recommend the oil personally, because that is more for wax build up and just like in cooking, water and oil don't mix, so i don't really see how that would get rid of the water. that sounds like it would make more of a mess. what i would try (my parents did this a couple times while i had tubes) is get a q-tip and don't put it in the ear very far or even move it, the cotton will soak up the water (to this day i have to use qtips to get the water out whenever i shower or swim etc.) and if you are to afraid of that try taking a corner of a towel and use your pinky finger that is as effective and you can't go as far or slip like you could with a qtip.
good luck and i hope your lil tyke feels better soon, i know how much it stinks to have your ears hurting so bad!

Lifeguards and those who spend a lot of time at the pool have a couple tricks to avoid swimmer's ear. You shake your head downward and to the side so that the water shakes right out. If this doesn't work, you'll put your hand over your ear and create suction (much like a plunger) by pushing your hand gently into your ear and then pulling your hand away quickly. I was skeptical until I tried this myself... it works and I've taught my children to do it as well. No more reports of water in their ears since we've practices these methods.

i don't know what to tell you to do tonite but go to the drugstore and get these drops called "swimmers ear" it helps to dry up the water that gets in the ears. I used it when I was little because of the same thing. I would get water in my ear from swimming and even showering that would not dry up. It would lead to a really bad ear infection. I began using the swimmers ear and it stopped the problem the next day. I still use it and I'm 26

all you do is mix 1/2 vinigar w/ 1/2 rubing alchohold and stick some in his hear. It is the exact same thing (and safer) than all the stuff you buy at the store, like swimmers ear etc.

You don't tell if it is hurting. If yes, give him acetaminophen or Advil. Look for any prescription used before for this same situation that isn´t expired.
