The loss of a pet is hard :( it hurts for a long time (for me any ways) i have heard that sometimes it is harder to lose a pet than it is to lose a person from your family... the pain never goes away but it does ease.
I had to put my dog to sleep 7 months ago (one month after his 13th b-day) :*( it was the hardest thing to do and it was the WORST day of my life.....see, now you got me crying..just great lol
He had congestive heart failure :*( i miss him SO SO MUCH, he was the best dog EVER!!! He was my baby, my life. I had him my whole teen life (ever since i was 13) he literally did everything with me, I loved him so much and i still love him, i will never forget him.
I don't think I'll be able to get a new dog.
you are not alone, it may feel that way but you are not....email me if you want to talk

I've always been very fond of my animals.
Some families are more interactive than others. I think pets fill in a lot for those that are less affectionate & interactive. That can lead to some problems, such as you describe. I feel that I benefited from reading the following articles, so am recommending them to you.

Pets can be likened to disabed children that never grow up, with short life-spans. They can become a person's very close companion ... My sincere condolences!

You are really hurting, and rightfully so. You lost a beloved member of your family. Maybe your best friend. You are going through a grieving process. It takes a while to work your way through it. You wouldn't be the first to have a few sessions with a grief counsellor. Give it a try !
At some point, call a local humane society and ask if you can spend a few minutes there. Some day you will be ready to adopt another dog. When you do that, please don't compare your new dog with the one you lost recently. Good Luck!!

Don't be afraid of your grief. It is normal to become depressed after loose a trusting and loving pet.
People always believe that, 'oh, well, you could always get another one'. Not true. Those that come and go in your heart can never be replaced or substituted.
But, in time, you will adopt a new pet and there will be room in your life and heart for that new pet. It takes time.
By adopting another pet from the pound when the right time comes, you will be saving a life. So, concentrate on getting another dog. I have always gotten my dogs from the pound and have yet to be disappointed.
Don't be afraid to move on and continue being the decent and caring person you are. Good luck...

I believe the part that it's a big blur because you can't believe that it happened, but I don't believe that part that you are alone. Many people feel your pain, some feel the loss greater than others. You are still grieving, but you are not alone. Telling someone is not a pre-requisite for pity or judgment, it's comfort that you are looking for. I surely hope that you find it, the same goes for anyone else out there who lost a loved one.

I lost my babygirl Sunshine Oct. 12, 2004. I had to put her down due to diabetes. She was 7 years old. She was sooooooooooo loved by us all and is missed everyday. We did get a new dog a week after she had been gone and we love her just like we did Sunshine. It has taken me two years though to give our new dog, Abbey Road, Sunshine's old toy bone, but Abbey loves it and it's beautiful to see it on the floor again! I don't care if someone judges me or my children our "pets" are family to us and if people think we are strange in thinking that, then that's just too bad!!!. We are animal lovers and they have every right to be mourned just like humans are. Because of them we live longer and lead happier lives!!!! Thank God for animals!!! You can learn a lot from animals, like love, nurturing and plain old common sense!! They don't judge us, just love us like we do them! I say it's ok to mourn a loss of a pet, I do and always will.

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. The emptiness is almost unbearable. You should get another dog. You may feel guilty but you shouldn't. Every dog I have owned has left their paw print on my heart. You won't forget your lost love(s). Simply enjoy new ones. And when you start to feel the cold wind blow there will be someone to warm you and to hold close. I believe that we will meet all of our lost loves again when we get to heaven. I can't wait for that day when I can see mine come running across the field and leap into my arms whole an complete again.

You didn't say how long it's been. I had my dog put down in April, she was 14. I didn't think I'd ever get over it, it was so devastating. Everyone said it would get better but it didn't help at all. But, you know they were right. The first month was the hardest. After that it got a little better everyday. I still think about her but it's not painful anymore. I think about the good times and it makes me smile. I recently got a kitten to help fill the void. Please trust that it really will get better. Just give it time and mourn for as long as it takes.

I know exactly what you mean...I lost my baby girl a female pitt bull/sharpei mix. The cops killed her after they took her from me and didn't give me the chance to bail her out of doggy jail. When I found out that they killed and had no remorse for my feelings I tried to commit suicide. That happened 2 years ago June. The first time after her death that I saw a picture of her I broke down and cried...I couldn't stop crying...I miss her so much...she was nearly 13 when she was taken away from me. There should be a support group for people who have lost a pet...I can't even talk or write about her without crying. Now I have 2 new babies...a boy and a girl...my boy loves me like my first baby girl did...hopefully the cops won't take my new babies from me.

Hi, I am so sorry for your loss, I lost my dog due to my maid, kicked it so hard, that it died from internal bleeding.. The maid no longer works for me.... But it was a gift to my wife before we got married.
it was a Lhasa Apso.. it was a baby, 6 weeks old... I really miss him.
My wife was devastated..... At least to ease the pain i have that dogs son and got another dog..... I really feel for you... Have you tried getting the same type of dog specially if its a baby.. maybe your first dog soul came back to you... Peace be with you.... Hope you find another that would make you smile again...
