Here are a few suggestions (some newer & some old):

"Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle

"Good Night, Gorilla by Peggy Rathman

"The Napping House" by Audrey Wood and Don Wood

"Are You My Mother?" by P.D. Eastman

"Bear Snores On" by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman

"Hug" by Jez Alborough

"But Not the Hippopotamus" by Sandra Boynton

"Baby Beluga" by Raffi

The authors of the above books also have written many other titles that you should check out. Additionally, the children's librarian at your local branch should be able to make other recommendations. Also, please visit Jim Trelease's web site. He is the author of "The Read-Aloud Handbook," an invaluable resource for parents.

Best book ever is "The Big Red Barn" by Margaret Wise Brown
( shes the same that wrote " Goodnight Moon")
it's a poem, with great illustrations, animal activities and noises.
My son LOVED it at 2, he's 16 now but I teach preschool and I read it every year when we are talking about farms. It has animals from regular farm animals like cow, horses, donkeys, to things like field mice and bats. It is also available as a board book which will hold up very nicely.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear; Panda Bear, Panda Bear & Polar Bear, Polar Bear

for a little older
Giraffe's Can't Dance

I was in the children's book of the month club, I received a couple of books called "baby animals" one was domestic animals, one was wild animals.

Unsure of the author, but I can check and let you know.
