To answer your question, yes. There are women who have been told by doctors that they would never be able to conceive, but they end up pregnant. That would be an 'unexpected pregnancy'. Any pregnancy that was not planned is an unexpected pregnancy. Just because you do not use condoms or take birth control doesn't mean you WILL get pregnant. You can, but it may not happen. And if does happen, it doesn't mean you planned it. So, you can be knowledgeable about what can happen if you engage in unsafe sex, but that doesn't mean that you planned or are purposely trying to get pregnant. Does that make sense?

Of course there is such thing....birth control is not 100% effective and neither are condoms. Nobody expects to get pregnant when they are being responsible when it comes to sex. On the other hand their are people who are careless and don't protect themselves so when a pregnancy occurs it should not be totally unexpected.

I believe the term :unexpected means that you did not plan the pregnancy ahead of time and put thoughts into when you would concieve the baby and have the items ready before the baby was born.

No such thing as unexpected unless you're that .01% of women that take their birth control religiously yet still get pregnant. If you don't take it religiously, it's not unexpected. If you don't use birth control of some manner, it's not unexpected. Irresponsible pregnancy, maybe, unexpected, no.

I am a married teacher. Our first child was meticulously planned; she was born on the last day of school in the spring, so I had all summer home with her. A year or so later, in February, I started throwing up in the mornings. Surprise! Our son was born in November, living proof that no birth control method is 100%!

of course, it happens all the time. Probably 90 % of all people are on the earth because of it. When someone is really young and uneducated, they may not know that following their hormones can lead to pregnancy. Nobody told them.

I guess if you think you are using protection and that protection fails, yes, that can happen. Condoms break, Birth control pills don't always work, something you can get pregnant when you think you aren't ovulating. Some call those "miracle babies"
