Fasting is a period of not eating. It's practiced in most religions. During the time of fasting there is prayer and thoughtfulness.

Fasting is going without food usually to gain deeper insight into one's relationship with God, to detoxify the body, or to lose weight and reset the body's natural mechanisms. Be careful to drink at least one-half of your bodyweight in ounces of water.
A juice fast is preferable over a water fast; most health care professionals recommend this.
