Yes. Buddhism is not a christian religion, but it is a religion. Buddha was a real person. The practice focuses on enlightenment and involves chanting. When Buddha died, those who practiced began to actually worship him or his idol just as Christians worshiped Christ. I studied about Buddhism in my Comparative Religions class while I was in college. The thing I found most interesting is that while he was alive he never claimed or asked to be worshiped as a god.

It depends upon whom you ask. I know that is not very satisfying but for many adherents it is just as nebulous.

The idea of a religion is tough for a Buddhist. Most believe in reincarnation with the eventual goal of getting finished with reincarnating. God, as Christians may conceive God, does not really come into the picture at all.

Buddhism is more about how to clean up your life, to quit attaching to things and bringing yourself so much pain and misery. As such, Buddhism is a philosophy more than a religion. Other local faiths or religions have grafted themselves onto Siddhartha's (the founder) teachings and made things much more convoluted. But the basic premise is still there: get off the Wheel of Reincarnation to that eternal blissful state.

yes, but people tend to be confused on Buddhism because it's the only non-God religion (or so I've read). But, yes, it's a religion.

Buddhism is a philosophy, a way of life, and yes a religion. I've heard many argue one way or another, but the interesting part is that usually none of them are Buddhist. where do they get their ideas?

by the way Buddhists do not worship Buddha as a god. we do venerate him as a very wise man.

Buddha was a man, not a god. Still to some, Buddhism is considered a religion. To others, they practice some Buddhist traditions, yet remain Christian, Jewish, etc.

Yeah, but it's more of a philisophy for people to live by. It's not a matter of believing in a higher power, it's about living in the present and worshipping what you have. The buddha was the person who created this philosophy - and "buddha" wasn't his true name.
