I always have strep throats and my mum smokes

Yes, second hand smoke can cause sore throats as well as cancer. I don't know where you live and work, but see if there is anything you can do to remedy the situation.

Yes it happens to me all the time. Smoke irritates the cilia,or little hairs that line your throat, and this causes a sore throat feeling usually because it tickles then you try to "scratch it" by clearing your throat alot.(You can do this in your sleep) Long-time smokers have irritated their cilia so many times that they have all fallen out, so they don't feel as much irritation anymore. This is not good.

Absolutely. If there is a way you could avoid it, I would recommend that, even if it means a change in jobs. It has been proven that second hand smoke causes even more cancer and disease than actually smoking (which is the number one, most preventable killer.)
