Once it is taped , that is what you've got.
There is no way possible to retrieve previous data.

The first thing that happens to a tape in a VCR once you have pressed record is that the ERASE HEAD is switched on and the tape passes over it before reaching the record heads .Any existing information is permanently erased. Not even the FBI can retrieve it !
Tag you are wrong !!The erase head is on the left of the tape transport and then comes the revolving head drum which carries the the record heads, That in my maths is 2 seperate heads. Sugest you take another look inside !.

Yes in a well equipped video lab a lot of the original can be recovered. But we are talking about the type of stuff that the FBI does on taped over surveillance footage. For any real use by real people - No

Not a chance!

Tapes are recorded using only one magnetic head (and there's no separate heads to erase and record!) Once the tape is magnetized, the previous recording is totally erased (that is using the same recorder)

Suggest you move/remove from the record tab (to the protect position)on important recordings.
