My dog has a huge hot spot that isn't healing because he keeps licking/biting at it. I've never used an Elizabethan Collar (E-collar). Would he be able to sleep/nap while wearing it?? Is it a total pain in the butt??

Dogs hate them BUT THEY WORK!!! My dog kept licking an incsion and it would not heal until I put one on him. He laid in a corner most of the time b/c he hated it but it healed a lot faster without him licking it. I know people hate them too but they WORK!!! Just be sure that he can eat and drink with it and does not get hung by the neck with it on. Watch him while he is using it. His lick wound will heal faster if you use it!!

The backs of your legs get bloody from the dog running into them!!!!! And things are knocked all over the house!!

Try a Bite-Not collar. Do an online search and you can find them. Or take a towel and fold it up and put it around the dogs neck and cover it with duct tape. It makes it stiff and the dog had trouble turning it's head, but the dog can move easier and it doesn't kill you legs.
I think bitenot.com will show you a picture of it, then you can see for sure how to make one.
I always use the towel method now for post-surgical chew stopping!!

It does look funny doesn't it? But it does benefit you & makes you less stress knowing that your dog won't go nipping at the hot spot.
Just don't embarrass your dog as some dogs do feel embarrass. Tell your dog it's going to be alright...And as for sleeping with it, no harm to it. Your dog might not be used to it at first, but after the first night, it'll be alright.

Good luck.

It can be a pain, but you can't keep letting your dog chew on that hot spot. As long as you don't have it on too tightly, he should be able to sleep with it on. Take it off at feeding time, and replace it afterwards.

yes my pup had it after he had 2 operations. they get used to it and sleep very well. you can take it off when they eat but it doesnt hurt them at all. its better to let them wear it for a week or two than disturb the wounds.
