What are you unhappy about? Do you have a psychiatrist? you should have one. I don't know what kind of insurance you have but I hope that it covers one. When you say that you have a mental health team it makes me think that you have already been diagnosed with a mental illness, that the team doesn't think that you have manic depression but that you do. Who diagnosed you?
It had to be at least a Psychologist.
Yours is a difficult question. Your gp is not supposed to go against your mental health team, so changing gp's probably won't
do anything, If you were in a hospital in my state, you would have a right to a 2nd opinion from a psychiatrist. In my opinion, he/she
is the one who should be diagnosing you in the first place.
The problem, as one of the previous answers noted, with many diagnoses, the illness clouds the thinking and judgement of the patient. The other thing I have found is that only psych R.N.s,
psychologists, and psychiatrists know enough to diagnose mental illnesses. No offence, but as a psych R.N. myself, I have
never heard a lay person talk about mental illness and have any Idea what they were talking about. I'm not trying to be critical, I'm just trying to get the idea accross that probably it's not the best idea to try to diagnose youself.
If I were you, I think that a second opinion is the way to go. If 2
psychiatrists both agree on your diagnoses and treatment, then
you can be pretty sure that the diagnoses is correct. I can imagine how scary this is for you. If you have a close family member maybe they can help you with this.

I am a Deputy manger rmn andif you are not happy with your mental health team then you are fully entitled to go thru the complaints service which can be picked up thru any gp or mental health service that is your right as a human being.
I understand gps are not always good with mental health issues and a cpn is not qualified to diagnose manic depression the only person who can make the correct diagnosis is a psychiatrist and your gp certainly can refer you to see one who will assess your symptoms and prescribe the necessary treatment.
However you need to explain all of your symptoms to the psychiatrist for them to be able to make the correct diagnosis.

You seem upset with your GP. Perhaps you should call him back and ask for a referral to the mental health practitioner(s) he works with.
Since you are currently receiving care, although inadequate according to you, he was right not to intervene. The people you see are considered better equipped than your GP to handle your issues.
My personal opinion is that when you have an illness you are best served by gaining a full understanding of that illness, including possible treatment options. You might want to see if one of the patterns of bi-polar disorder matches your condition. Also you may want to keep a journal describing what you are feeling at various times since it seems that your team is perceiving something other than what you see.

OK....he's trained as a general practiontioner; your mental health is specifically trained as professional in their fields. Physicians honor those boundaries. Perhaps your team is right. If you are unhappy with your mental health team , tell them. You won't be the first. Tell them what you want to take and how much. Tell them you want to get off of the meds. Tell them how you know more than they do about your condition. I guarantee you will be in "lock down' before the end of the year. You need a reality check along with your mental diagnosis. You're not the first or only one who has a mental condition who wants to change the doctors recommendations. That is why you are mentally ill. You cannot make rational decisions for yourself. Wake up!!!!

I am answering this question because somebody has told you you can not make rational decisions for yourself as you are mentally ill. That was a very unkind thing to say cos of course you can still make decisions and have a say in your treatment. I suggest you go to a counsellor to talk over the issues with your team, then if you need to stick up for yourself with them she or he will help you with what to say and how to go about it. You can get it free here, go to the CAB who can put you in the right direction. Also, counselling could help you with the issues that make you mentally ill in the first place. Please fight this until you think you are being taken seriously.

If your not getting the proper care from your medical team get a second opinion. I have suffered with depression for years and was told I would always be on medication. When my husband died I couldn't afford the medication and went for 5 years un medicated. I did okay. I am currently back on medication but trust that Doctors are human beings and prone to acts of humanness just like us. Believe half of what you hear and none of what you see. Get another person to step in on your behalf.

I absolutely lost faith in Dr. i hate them. i dont even know why their there.
you wait ages in the b lo o dy waiting room, and then when you go actually see the dr, they just give you a load of information from the internet!!!! so stupid. especially when you browsed through the internet the symptoms that your having etc at home, and reason you go to dr is to actually make sure whether you have this condition or not.
I had few bowel problems while back, and all she did was print few sheets out from internet and thats it.
had miscarriage last week, when i told the dr whilst i was pregnant and bleeding she said it'll more likely to be a miscarriage. and thats it. i knew i was having a miscarriage thats the whole point i went to see her. she didnt even refer me to hospital or anything. had to call up and make appointment myself for a scan at the hospital!!! am so angry with these sit on bum all day and earn lots of money for nothing!
i was having servere chest pains, so she examined my chest and then said , your probably one of the healthiest person i ever met. yeah right
and am not really surprised why your gp is not taking any action.
best to go see private phsychitrist clinic.

Maybe if you have good insurance you should try another doctor. There are many doctors out there. Check yourself into a hospital and let them admit you for help and go from there. Not being mean just trying to help.

It is your right to ask a second opinion and to seek help from a psychologist or psychiatrist. The psychologist cna help figure out what is going on, but will not be able to prescribe drugs if they are required.
