Dating is against Islam so that young people are no tempted to as you say have unwanted sex.
It is OK though to go out in groups where you will not have any "alone time"

Muslims believe that young girls are too young to know what they want or need. It is up to the parents to choose a husband that will take care for their daughter when she becomes of age. The right man is important because he needs to be able to provide a stable home environment for their daughter who will bare children. Divorce is NOT acceptable like it is here.
Unfortunately, the right choice is not always made by the parents, but Muslims are ones of tradition. Like every Religion, there are flaws, but sometimes I think the young Americans today need guidance when it comes to marriage and then maybe the divorce rate would not be so high.

I live in Turkey (99 % muslim) when i look around i see a lot of girls dating.
But it might be because we have secular laws instead of religious ones.
I guess in other other muslim countries (if what you say is true) it should be something about adultery(i hope i'm using the word right)
Additional Info for ''whynotaskdon''s post ;(He's reading some other book i guess)
In Koran Sure 24:31 Allah (God) says ; '' Tell the believing women to keep their chastity and honor.Tell them not to show their ornaments(jewelry) to others. Unless they are not family(a long description of family here) ...
In Sure 2:223 ; ''Believers , your wives are your farms.Only they are permissable to you.Be together with a clear conscience''
And in Sure 3:14 ; ''Things like women, boys, nice horses, wealth, gold, silver, cattle are shown to people as some important things which are all temporary. Only Allah gives the eternal beauties and wealth to the ones with the strong belief''
Respects(please don't try to manipulate people with wrong info)

At one time in American culture girls were not allowed to date freely either. It's only been since the early 1900's that this practice began to change. Anyhow, in their belief system when a girl begins to reach maturity she should remain covered from all men except those in her family and her future husband. It is a method of remaining modest, chaste and and to ensure the protection of their values. You ought not compare religious requirements to cultural norms. They are distinctly different.
In a side note to ernest77h, you couldn't be more wrong or uninformed. I have friends who are Muslim and I am not. They are not forbidden to talk to or be friends with non-Muslims. Secondly, not all Muslim nations are dictatorships or autocratic. Some, like Pakistan or Azerbaijan are republics which, is what the US is. Try to stop spreading fear and ignorance and try becoming informed on issues of global importance.

Can a devout Muslim be an American patriot and a loyal
citizen? Consider this:
Theologically, no. Because his allegiance is to Allah, the
moon god of Arabia.Scripturally, no.Because his allegiance
is to the five pillars of Islam and the Quran (Koran)
Geographically, no. Because his allegiance is to Mecca, to
which he turns in prayer five times a day.Socially, no. Because his allegiance to Islam forbids him
to make friends with Christians or Jews.
Politically, no. Because he must submit to the
mullah (spiritual leaders), who teach annihilation of Israel and destruction of America, the great Satan.Domestically, no, because he is instructed to marry four
women and beat and scourge his wife when she disobeys
him (Quran 4:34).
Religiously, no. Because no other religion is
accepted by his Allah except Islam (Quran, 2:256)
Intellectually, no, because he cannot accept the American
Constitution since it is based on Biblical principles and he
believes the Bible to be corrupt.Philosophically, no, because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran
do not allow freedom of religion and __expression.
Democracy and Islam cannot co-exist.
Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic.
Spiritually, no, because when we declare "one nation under
God," the Christian's God is loving and kind, while
Allah is NEVER referred to as our heavenly father, nor is
he ever called love in the Quran's 99 excellent names.
Therefore after much study and deliberation....perhaps we
should be very suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS in this
country. They obviously cannot be both good Muslims and good
Americans. Call it what you wish...it's still the
truth. If you find yourself intellectually in agreement with
the above, perhaps you will share this with your friends.
The more who understand this, the better it will be for our country.
The war is bigger than we know

I don't think that's specific to the religion but to specific cultures. There are plenty of Muslim followers here in America that date freely. They would rather you marry a fellow Muslim though, but that goes for Catholics and Jews too. Maybe you mean specifically to Arab Muslims?
Gosh I'm horrified at all the anti-Islam bigots here! Anyone who misquotes the Koran should know that the Bible could be paraphrased and misquoted too! Especially those laws in the Old Testament (Lev) that speaks of females as commodities and supports slavery!

Moslem boys are not allowed to date freely either!!! It is fair since the rules for boys is the same as for girls on mixing. Any difference is due to anal-retentive cultural aspects, not religion.

Because muslim girls are a commodity.
The Quarán says==
They should be Veiled at all times in public Surah 24:31
A woman is a sex object Surah 2:223
Females ( wives) are a possession Surah 3:14

Islam is only trying to protect girls, and it's not only girls it is also for boys. Do you think it is right to sleep around, get knocked over, and get ST D's. I DON'T THINK SO. And the Quran gives woman more rights than the bible. The bible says that if a women commits fornication she should be stoned to death. So if you have not studied Islam and you are just judging the religion based on what you hear, STOP.
