Actually san is an honorific. Showing friendship or respect. It depends on what you put with it for the Mr. or Mrs
Example: Ojiisan, Okaasan, Oneesan, Otsuka-san

yes, the word is "san". for both man & woman
for example, thay call Mr. Smith as "Smith san"
for kids ( and for girl or young lady too), they may call it "chan", as in cartoon TV series Crayon Sin Chan, and Maruko Chan, to make it more "cute" sound

They are...it's -san for both of them. For young girls it's -chan and for young boys it's -kun. Hey is that little kid in crayon shin chan a girl, it looks like a boy? I love crayon shin chan...hah
