Don't worry too much... I also got my driving licence on my 3rd attempt... It's understandable that one will get nervous when the tester is just sitting beside you...

Just give your best shot and imagine that the person beside you is your instructor instead... Maybe you will feel better... Drink abit of Milo or eat some chocolates before the test, it will calm you down abit... It works for me, hope it does for you as well...

Good Luck...

A few things to try:

+ role-play with different friends, preferably people you don't know that well - have them act exactly like the tester will act, and genuinely mark you, to get used to the feeling

+ do a practice course a couple times *right* before you do the actual test, to get you into the groove of things

+ practice your decision-making skills so that you can do things confidently - like facing tricky left-hand turns at busy intersections, over and over

+ make a little conversation with your tester beforehand, about the weather, joking about the traffic, whatever - and during the drive, feel free to ask your tester to repeat their instructions, or chat yourself up a bit (for example, saying "here we go" or "okay, okay") while driving

+ don't overthink in the "oh ****, did I do that right" sense, just focus on the here-and-now, on the task you are given - when role-playing with a friend or family member, practice staying focused on current tasks and not worrying about the upcoming tasks or possible past failures

+ focus on the big things, like stopping at stop signs, checking your blind spots, and other safety/law-oriented stuff - don't worry so much about little things, like getting your driving speed perfect (as long as you don't speed all the time, of course)

+ psych yourself up - remember that you are a good driver, that you know the rules of the road, that you're familiar with the area, that you've practiced, and that you can now deal with this challenge

+ finally, relax yourself - for some this means deep breathing, for some this means squeezing a good luck charm, for some this means quickly listening to a hard metal song, whatever

+ remember, ease into the test - take your time pulling out of the parking lot, just to let your body catch up with your head

good luck! I passed my test on the first try doing these things, maybe they'll work for you too.

remember - what's more important than feeling relaxed is feeling confident!

Well, taking driving test is always nervous, but tell yourself one thing. The person sitting next to me is my driving instructor and not the tester. Once you can do that, I think you will not be panic anymore. The rest of the test depends on your driving skill. Remember, follow the instruction correctly. All the best to you in your driving test.

Try visualization before your test. Visualize yourself taking the
test and succeeding. Have your thoughts collected as if you
are doing a simple task...right turn, left turn, stop at stop signs,
red lights, go the speed limit, keep both hands on the wheel and
visualize yourself completing each direction from the instructor
as if it was no big deal...visualize, and focus when it comes time
for the test knowing you will indeed succeed next time. Hope
you pass this next one because maybe you shouldn't be driving
if you fail it!!!! lol You'll do fine...driving is easy!!!!!!

Maybe you should not be driving at all.

Can you imagine the danger other drivers and pedestrians will be at risk if you keep failing the test and then by sheer chance you pass.

You may let go of the wheel and hide your face if there is a slight chance of an accident. Please, seriously consider giving up, just be a passenger!

I am a nervous person and I failed my driving test the first time. The second time I went in with an attitude of "Who cares, I have already failed. I am just going to get this over with." A bad attitude yes, but It made me much calmer and I passed.

I like eating altoids, some chew gum. It is a test taking technique designed to help calm your nerves. You have 2 subsystems in your nervous system the fight or flight system (kicks in during stressfull situations ie tests). The second is your feed and breed system, it is active during calm moments. Activate the feed and breed system by eating altoids etc.

Breath slowly in through your nose, hold your breath for 10 seconds or so exhale out of your mouth. Do this continually and stay off the caffeine and sugar.

Talk to your county health office. You need to talk to someone about exam taking strategies. This is what you need to keep from losing your nerve while doing your driving test.
