I have heard different statistics for this. I have heard that it is either Iran or Pakistan (over the long term) for taking in enormous amounts of Afghani refugees, but I've also heard that it is Chad at the moment for the Darfur crisis, and also I've heard the title being given to Kenya - for taking in refugees from most of its neighbours over the years.

The important difference is that these countries don't strut around the world with their chests puffed out talking about what good people they are for helping the refugees - so we don't know about it...

stop being so full of yourself - you can't educate the world like this... it just antagonizes people and makes you seem like a zealot!

refer to Ed Sawyers answer to this one..

So so what - do you want the world to say Iran is lovely now...

But I promise you the refugees would ALL rather end up in Europe (preferably UK) and otherwise Canada, Australia.
The number 1 choice without a doubt is the USA..
Its like winning the lottery. I know Iranians would LOVE a war just to have the chance to come to the US as "refugees". I think refugees is a BS concept - the west should be doing more local aid ! Only exceptional cases (true political activists - note not I don't like to wear a headscarf - or I can't see football with all the boys in the stadium types) could be granted asylum.

For people who say yhe UK, we only actually take 2.4% of the world's population of refugees! 2 million fled Afghanistan when The Taliban were in power, 1.5 million went to surrounding countries such as Pakistan and Iran.

It was Ethiopia or Chad, I believe. One of the countries near the Sudan. Now a lot of those refugees are returning Darfur. Let's hope that they don't have to flee again.

THE WORLD’S most powerful countries use a free-trade con game to rip off poorer nations. That’s the conclusion of a report released last week by the antipoverty group Oxfam.

The U.S. and the European Union (EU) insist that developing countries adopt free-trade policies that open up their economies to international competition and investment by eliminating trade barriers and government subsidies to domestic industries.

But the U.S. and EU don’t practice what they preach, according to Oxfam’s report, titled "Rigged Rules and Double Standards." According to the study, the EU and U.S. are especially hypocritical when it comes to agriculture, spending billions to protect their own farmers from imports from developing countries--while subsidizing exports to poor countries.

"These subsidized exports from rich countries are driving down prices for exports from developing countries and devastating the prospects for smallholder agriculture," the report concludes. "Some of the world’s poorest countries are competing against its richest treasuries."

As study author Kevin Watkins told reporters, "Governments of rich countries constantly stress their commitment to poverty reduction. Yet the same governments use their trade policy to conduct what amounts to robbery against the world’s poor."
