Yes, everyone who lives in America should speak English. Whatever else they want to speak is up to them. Every other damn country requires that you speak their language if you want to live there, and have much, much tougher immigration laws. Why should Americans bend over backwards when nobody else does?

Out of respect for the country that is allowing you to reside there, you should learn the national language. English was declared the national language of the United States about two months ago.

I don't give a sh*t WHAT language you speak when you are with your family, out socially with friends, or at your church, but if you plan on doing anything with your money, whether it be to request a pack of cigarettes or ask where the laundry detergent is in a grocery store, you had better say it in English.

We fought for the language here, and it's OUR NATIONAL LANGUAGE.

Until you fight us for it, that's how it will remain unless you win. If you win, we'll bend, but don't expect us to surrender and just give that over to you.

We do not cater to your language. Out of respect for our country (just like we would respect yours if we came to reside there), learn the OFFICIAL national language.

I do. I also think everyone in France should speak French, everyone in Germany should speak German..and so on. It doesn't have to be the only language you speak...but everyone who lives in a country should speak the national language.

I don't think people should be required to know english but at least know like the basics so every one can communicate with eachother. We should be able to speak different languages in the U.S. because of all the different cultures.

i love to go to work or a mall and hear so many different languages. it encourages me to see people of various cultures respecting each other and living in peace.

but, you have a point, it may help communication (thus interpersonal relationships) if everyone know at least some english

I think every citizen should speak English. However, I agree with Devious, it would not hurt us to learn another language.

Me. If I were to move to France (god forbid), I would certainly take it upon myself to learn French. I would *not* expect France to start spending money on English TV programs, english brochures, and english instructions and signs. If you're going to move here, learn the damn language for your own good.

Anyone living in a foreign country should know enough of that country's language to sustain themselves until they learn the language.
