You probably pulled a muscle. Give it a rest and it should go away soon. If it doesn't go away in the next couple of weeks you might want to see a doctor.

Don't spend money on a massage therapist. Take a little bit of aspirin. Like 1 pill every 6 hours or so (I don't really recommend this but it works for some people). In addition, massage your hamstring muscle often to get the blood flowing. Don't be afraid to use a bit of force with it. And abstain from running for 3-4 days. You don't want to make it worse.
The person below suggests stretching before working out. THAT IS WRONG! You warm up first by doing full rotation of joints and a light session of whatever you're doing. YOU STRETCH AFTER. Stretching before can decrease your maximum power for a lift!

You pulled it, probably level 1 strain. As above, stay off of it, and RICE
Rest, Ice, Compress it, and Elevate it. If you can take ibuprofen, that can help reduce swelling if any.
If you do choose to keep running or lifting, keep it compressed-wrap or sleeve.
Also as above, it is wise to warm up your muscle before you stretch it...and if it is pulled, or strained, don't stretch a strained muscle, as you are damaging it further. Best to stay off of it, icing it and keeping it compressed.
Perform self myofascial release on it as well-using a foam roller or "the stick" to break up the scar tissue and knots that can accumulate over muscle fiber bundles.
If it is really bad, look into E-Stim, or electrical stimulation. This is usually done by a physical therapist.

Sounds like you have a Grade 1 muscle tear. See a massage therapist or better yet a chiropractor and get that muscle rehabed. You've got scar tissue in that muscle that needs to be taken care of.

Did u stretch before u started to work out? It is very important to stretch before any physical activities. I reccomend to ice it and do NOT work it to hard or it can get worse.
