I am 71 years old, and have suffered very bad acid reflux for 20 years. I have to sleep sitting up, otherwise the acid comes up into my throat, and makes me choke. I am on 40 mg a day of Omeprazole also Zantac and Peptac Liquid from the Doctor. It doesn't always work, and the thought of eating anything with acid in it, fills me with horror. My problem is mainly at night, so I don't eat or drink after 6 pm, but I can still get bad reflux in the middle of the night.

I have severe acid reflux and on top of that my food sticks right in the middle of my chest where my ribs come together.
I have had my esophagus dilated which helped some but now they are talking about doing another procedure. The doctor also has me on some medication that is usually prescribed for chest pain and high blood pressure but it seems to help with the pain of food sticking and feeling like it is never going to go down.

Anyway, as for the reflux.........nexium is the only thing that has helped me.

I have acid reflux and it had gotten so bad it would wake me up at night. I started taking Prevacid and that completely eliminated the problem. Now I take Prilosec since it is available over-the-counter and it works fine too.

I have it and the pain can feel like your having more like a heart attack than a gastro-intestinal problem. Nexium has been great. You take it for a few weeks and the symptoms go away, provided that you've done something about your diet. Good luck.

The only way my symptoms are controlled is if I take Nexium daily...I have tried to stop taking meds or tried taking something over the counter but it doesnt help nearly as much. My main symptom is chest pain (its not heart related).
