There really is no fast easy way to get rid of ticks that is also cheap. I am a dog groomer, and I have dealt with these nasty little critters for many years. if you do not have the patience or time to sit and pull them out one by one, please PLEASE do not think you can smother them with Vaseline or burn them with a match tip...or any of these other myths. That makes them literally "throw up" the contents of their stomachs into the animal which is literally poison. The best advice I can give you for the large med-long hair og breed is go to your local pet retail store and browse the flea and tick isle. Not all remedies for ticks are expensive. I know there are a few here that I would only spend maybe $20 and that is buying three bottles due to large breed. I am sorry I have no other information for you. If you do decide to pull them out yourself, please use tweezers and don't twist. If their head detaches from their body it can cause infection. Shaving the dog is an idea, and would cut down on the needed tick dip needed, just as long as you leave enough to cover the skin to protect the dog from the elements. Frontline is good and not totally out of touch with the pocketbook, works fabulous. Kudo's to you for taking this fur kid in.

it takes 48 hrs for frontline on a tic. 24 hrs for fleas. I am trying to find something out for you. if i don't get back. try to keep as many of tics as possible and seal them up in a jar. if the dog happens to get sick then they can test the tics.
nope can't find anything you are going to have to pull them off
Use latex exam gloves to examine your pet for ticks. Examine using good lighting.
Check your pet daily for ticks by thoroughly feeling for any lumps under the hair. Pay close attention to ears, around face, eyes, legs, and belly.
Ticks will range in size from the size of a sesame seed to the size of a fingernail (engorged).
When is tick is found embedded in the skin, use a fine pointed tweezers at the point of attachment, and grasp firmly. Remember to wear latex gloves when doing this.
Using slow, steady, and firm traction, pull the tick straight out from the skin.
Cleanse the skin with mild soap and water.
If part of the tick breaks off, you can try to remove it as you would a splinter, but it is probably best to leave it alone. The body will 'eject' it in time.
Place the tick in a jar of alcohol, noting the date, in case of future illness. Tick identification and location of tick infestation will be important.
Tips:
Do NOT use a match or caustic materials to try to smother the tick or get the tick to 'back out'. This doesn't work, and may be causing the tick to regurgitate more saliva (and potential pathogens) into the skin.
Talk to your vet about effective tick control (spray, powder, spot-on, or collar) for your pet.
Check pet daily, especially in the spring when ticks are most common

Frontline Spray is very good to get rid of fleas in less than 24 hours. It is very effective. And you need to only use it once on the dog. A 250ml bottle costs about $25. You dont need to use the whole bottle on this particular dog, so you can save it for your own dogs for later.
You are kind to take this dog in.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/OlhCJ
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

I'm a guy, and personally, I don't like long nails. I actually know a lot of like long, painted nails cause they're "so pretty", but I don't like them.

Really the only way to get the ticks off is buy picking them off. I am not 100% sure but I do think the things you can buy is more for prevention of the ticks. if you don't get them off fast they may cause him to get very sick or paralyse him or he may even die.

Go buy a box of a product called Capstar. ($15-$20) Its a pill which will kill the live fleas and eggs but not prevent them. Your dog should also be on a preventative.
