Let's say, for the ske of argument, that we just open the border and no longer check who comes in. make the rules the same, you MUST apply for residency or be considered an illegal.

OK that is set.
just pass a few little, but powerfull laws (some of these exist in one form or another and vary by location):
It is illegal to:
1. Employ an illegal
2. Sell Real Estate to an illegal
3. Rent lodging to an illegal
4. Sell or lease a vehicle to an illegal
5. Allow an illegal to stay free in any habitation

AND THE CLINCHER:
Anyone who violates these laws will, by law, forfeit ownership in said property/business to the person/'persons, filing the initial report of said violation.

It would NOT be difficult to get a proof of legality from anyone who wants to buy/rent/ lease/work!
and If you or I reported the person skirting the law, well we get the property/business in question!
Wouldn't that get community involvement to a new level?
TURN IN WALMART AND YOU OWN IT!
Intelligent opinions?

Correct Zoe. I am making the point that we cannot do that! Many who are pro-crime have made that very suggestion!
The lose it to the one who reports you aspect is a good one, though.
Illegals take directly from those in the community in which they illegally live.
I am tired of things being forfiet to the 'government' and the people never seeing benefit!
We should do this in regards to drug dealers/crackhouse properties too.
I think that we should let the cops individually keep a percentage of the monies taken from drug dealers and such. This would get the cops more motivated in taking down these eyesores!

You can never just open the border every person who hates the U.S.A. would be coming through. Most of what you wrote is already law. An open unchecked border would result in more 9-11's. The world is to evil to relie on the Honor system

I suppose if every country on this planet also did the same it would be ok. But to have the USA be the one to bend, and NO OTHER COUNTRY does, is not right. For example, Mexico. Mexico puts its Southern nations illegal aliens in prison when they get caught sneaking in from the southern border, yet they want to be able to walk right into America? Get real.

That is the world. No country has open border policies, and for good reasons. Security being formost.

Let peaceable people of all kinds come to America--just as they always have.

Sounds Draconian and implausible. That's the kind of law that children would pass to control other children.

yes, hugely draconian. But it is not equal to wistleblower laws. Wistleblower laws are meant to protect an individual from a company they turn in.

That sounds way too hard to enforce- but I like the idea.
It would definitely increase the demand for lawyers!!
