Wide angle, high speed film, fast f-stop.

get yourself a 50mm lens. they're cheap and fast. You should do well with a 1.8. A wide angle would be great if you can lay on the ground and have them perform on top of you. Otherwise, the gymnasts will be too small as the lens grabs the entire facility.

The 50 will give you the faster shutter and pull the action in a bit.

If they are doing floor exercises, try positioning yourself in a corner and grab the action as they are coming towards you. You can freeze action with a slower shutter speed when the object is moving towards and not across your camera.

try the standard 50mm f1.8 with Fuji Superia 800 (push to 1600 if needed) you can also go with the 85mm f1.8 (if you have money) or the 50mm f1.4
