go to craigslist.com and the newspaper classifieds. People are always looking to get rid of free puppies and kittens. Once you find your pup, look for shot clinics and spay/neuter clinics sponsored by your local animal rescue. You can usually get the little guy (or gal) shortened up for about $40, and a full battery of shots for $20-$40.

Then get good food for your new fur-kid...Purina One is good and relatively cheap for a better quality food. You can get cheaper food, but that can cost you more down the line in bills from nasty health complications springing from food made with bad ingredients (some cheap brands are the rough equivalent of a Twinkie diet).

Good luck!

go to your local humane society or animal shelter. The adoption fee (around $60-70 in my area) covers the cost of spaying or neutering, which is about half the price of taking the pup into the vet yourself. It also covers a set of shots, although you can buy those at pet supply stores for fairly low cost and administer them yourself the next time the dog is due. Except rabies - a vet has to do that. Have fun with your new family member!

Mini Jack Russell's are good. Small, cheap, they leave fur everywhere though.

Try going to a pound or look on the internet
www.petlink.com.au
That's where I found our Mini Foxy (almost the same breed as Jack Russell).

I also have a poodle shitzu, I find she's the easiest to teach out of all of them. She know how to *kiss* and everything. Beautiful, friendly, happy nature.

All the best!

We have gotten 3 dogs from the local ASCPA. Our present dog is Sherlock and we have had her for 13 years. She is an incredible addition to our family. Her love is truly unconditional and flows over to everyone in the house. Your local animal shelter will help you find a dog that is suited to you and your life style. IE good with kids, or protection, or just companionship. I think it is a waste to buy a dog from a breeder when you can chose one that might not make it.

Please consider this.

Adoption would be good. I've heard if the paws are big as a pupply they will be larger dogs. I have schnauzers and I know there are schnauzer rescues. Maybe a rescue program would be helpful to you. You can also check animal planet to see what type of dog will be best suited for your lifestyle. Hope that helps. Happy puppy hunting....

Try checking your local animal shelter. Also check the newspaper, sometimes puppies are listed free to a good home .

I think your best bet would be to adopt one that needs a home. The adoption fee most likely won't pass $100, and there's alot of wonderful puppies or older dogs that need a home. If you adopt you'll be saving one's life and that alone is a great deal.

The humane society or the local SPCA. Otherwise, you could check the local newspaper: Often there are people trying to give away puppies.
