It said guaranteed freshest taste by July 17th. Today is July 24th, it smells ok. and is not brown but regular color. It is made by Hatfield and does not contain preservatives, only dextrose. Can I still cook it for dinner?

If you question meat, DON'T eat it. I made this mistake of questioning meat before and had bad food poisoning. Throw it out and spend the extra money to buy some more. Consider it a donation to a charitable cause - your stomach/bowels.

YES you can still cook that for dinner only you can't enjoy the same freshness as July 17. A week over expiry can still be food.

Take the tiniest bite after you cook it. If it tastes fine, then you're ok. If you eat fungus, you'll be ok. You might feel SLIGHTLY sick but nothing major. The best before is a safe date that it doesn't go bad by. However, with proper cooling, it can be good for many more days!

If you had kept it in the freezer it MAY still be okay. If you have more sausage then I would just throw it away but I am sure that if you cook it thoroughly it will be fine to eat.

"freshest taste by ...." only means that.....freshest taste. After that date, as long as it doesnt smell funny and has a funny color, then u can eat it

I would probably eat it. A freshness date is probably not the same as an expiration date.
