A drilled hole is made with a drill and motor, and has smooth sides. That is where a tapped hole starts. You need a drilled hole to tap the hole. Tapping is a second operation that cuts or rolls a specified thread into the bore of the hole that was drilled. Fasteners like bolts and screws need to engage a similar thread to work, and that's what tapping does.

a tapped hole is threaded and a drilled hole is not.if you just drill it you need a bolt and a nut but if it's tapped the hole acts like the nut you just twist the bold into the hole
