I grew up on a kennel/hobby farm. Get references and check up on the kennel and its owners. If they are any good, they will let you go for a tour of the place.
Make sure your dogs have all thier shots up to date, especially for kennel-cough, heart-worm and giving them a dose of flea protector is a good idea.
Your dogs will not be allow with other dogs unless you request social time with other dogs, but I dont reconmend it. The dogs should be kept in a warm, dry, clean area that is sheltered from wind and rain. They should have enough room to move around, potty and sleep. Most of the "runs" should have dog houses or a sheltered area for your dog. Bring along a favorite toy and any bed or blanket the dog loves so that it feels more at home.

if they call themselves a kennel, i wouldn't risk it.
the good ones are "doggie daycares" or something with a nice name
most places these days have a website. find a few you want to check out in the yellow pages, ask them for a website and/or references, and see what you think.
there are some really nice ones, where the dogs can run around during they day, watch TV, etc. They will also feed your food, give your pet their meds (if any), and treat your pet as you would want them too.
warning: the better the place is, the more expensive it will be. however, you get what you pay for, and your babies deserve the best, right?

There are different kinds of kennels. My sister has 2 golden retrievers that she boards sometimes. It's a place called Pete & Mac's. They have a very large area where both dogs are boarded together. Plenty of room to move around. They also have each "room" seperated by glass bock walls. Look in the phone book for pet resorts. Also, you could consider a pet sitting service. I have never used one, but it might be something you could look into, also. Good luck!

We feel guilty, I know, my 1st dog I hated leaving in the kennel. You need to go to the place where the dog is going to board and ask to see the kennels, If they say NO. Leave. Go somewhere else.
You will find that the dogs have a place to walk around and usually and indoor and an outdoor run.
My dog loves going. When I drop him off, he is happy to go see his old friends. They see it differently then you do.

Try to leave them with friends instead of a kennel. My dog died when I returned from a trip! I have always felt very guilty about leaving her! But she was in the care of neighbors! It was not their fault, she waited to die till I got back. But it broke my heart! Good luck!

I would interview and hire a professional pet sitter. They will come to your house 3 times a day usually and will take great care of your animal. Just make sure you have heard good things about them since some pet sitters are not trust worthy.

The idea of leaving them in a kennel is so they won't be alone.
Kennel keepers are professionals and if you check the place out beforehand--like go without notice--and they're clean and kind to the animals, you should be able to relax and go on vaca, or whatever you're doing, without fear.

Check out vets and doggie hotels in your area. There may be dog sitters so your dog could stay home and the person could house sit. Be sure to have all shots updated and leave vet instructions and phone numbers incase of emergency.

Don't you have any family or friends who can take them in? Or feed and give them some fun at your own residence? Taking them to a kennel is a bit drastic!
